Timeless sarees across the ages! Discover the new ‘Portrait Series’ by Pranay Baidya Atelier
Bridal Fashion and Beauty - Jan 18, 2021
A confluence of Indian heritage and effortless style, Pranay Baidya Atelier has made its mark on the tapestry of modern Indian fashion. The Kolkata based designer is known for his commitment to celebrating and interpreting regional Indian weaves in a contemporary language, working with the best of textiles and long-standing weaver communities across the country. Now, fresh off the success of his initiative ‘Tant Saree and Textile Revival Project’, the designer had announced the launch of his exclusive new collection, the ‘Portrait Series’.
Inspired by the timeless grace and feminine allure of illustrious Indian women of the 20th century, the collection of festive and occasion-wear sarees is perfect for the timeless bride. This breathtaking collection is visualized as a series of portraits on the stunning Shalini Passi, Founder of Shalini Passi Art Foundation and MASH, who brings her inimitable style and old-world grace to the pictures.
An ode to the astounding saree style of Indian princesses, the collection is the epitome of elegant minimalism and channels the richness of hand-woven Indian textiles. Worn with gold, Polki and diamond ornaments from legacy jewelry houses like Moti Jewels Palace and Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas, the styling also reflects the splendor of Indian princesses and their penchant for teaming magnificent jewels with their sarees.
Created by artisanal communities of master weavers in Madhya Pradesh, the sarees featured in this collection are fashioned from hand-woven maheshwari silk, chanderi silk and metallic tissue silk woven in a mélange of striped patterns. Crafted in lush jewel tones of golden yellow, sapphire-blue, amethyst-purple, coral-red and ivory, these classic pieces are the perfect addition to a bride’s trousseau, or the wedding wardrobe of the bride’s friends and family as well. Silver, gold, rose-gold and copper metallic embroidery impart regalia, while handmade crochet lace detailing and edges in pure zari elevate the beauty of the pieces to another level.
As more and more people embrace the allure of intimate celebrations over extravagance in the new post-Pandemic world, we see an evolution from brides and their loved ones splurging on breakout trends to actually investing in mindful fashion and timeless styles.
Additionally, while dazzling couture sure does turn heads, nothing compares to the sartorial elegance and evergreen beauty that heritage weaves bring to your wardrobe.
