Wedding Planners Rajat Sogani & Devang Shah, co-founders of 7X Weddings, share their views on the new dynamics of the Indian Wedding landscape

A well-known name in the dynamic wedding industry of India, 7X Weddings has proved its mettle over the years with its creative insights, seamless execution, and professionalism. Today, as the world reels under the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic, the wedding industry is no exception and industry professionals are innovating their services quickly to cater to evolving needs. Wedding Planners, Rajat Sogani & Devang Shah, co-founders of 7X Weddings, shares their thoughts on the future of the Indian wedding industry while giving us a glimpse into his journey.
1. From a small venture to one of the most popular wedding planning companies in Gujarat, 7X Weddings has constantly pushed the boundaries of creativity. Can you share your journey of building brand 7X Weddings?
“Our journey began back in 2013 where I kick-started Seven Inks Business Solutions Pvt. Ltd, which is one of the leading names in business solutions. Eventually, I collaborated with Devang who was already running a leading event company in Gujarat for the past decade. 7X Weddings was founded within that year itself with the aim of establishing it as a turnkey wedding planning company that would cater to all its clients’ needs. Being a creative person, planning weddings comes naturally to me and I’m proud to say that at 7X Weddings, all our clients are 100% satisfied with our services. Thanks to these happy clients, our organization grew through word of mouth, and slowly but steadily, we’ve built a team of incredibly talented people who make sure no stone is left unturned to execute the perfect wedding. The journey of 7X Weddings is still underway and we grow ambitious by the day!”
2. What spurred you on to join the wedding industry and can you share the source of your inspiration?
“Devang and I have always wanted to change the way people thought about events and weddings. The scope of creativity in this field is endless and that is exactly what we wanted to convey with our work. The possibility of innovation in our industry is colossal and one needs a high level of efficiency paired with the willingness to challenge yourself every day. The first wedding that we both managed was that of a friend’s sister, and since then, there has been no looking back for us. Our clients, as always, remain our constant source of inspiration as we make sure that each one is treated like family.”
3. Destination weddings have become very popular with Indians. As an experienced planner, what suggestions do you have for couples who desire a destination wedding?
“The destination wedding market sees no signs of slowing down, and in my opinion, it will remain that way in the future too. Couples who’re looking to tie the knot at a destination wedding can definitely go ahead as they can now get married on an even grander scale with just close friends and family in attendance. My only suggestion would be to choose a location as per your personal preferences as weddings are a once in a lifetime affair, hence, everything needs to be as good as it can get.”
4. If you were to pick the top three destinations for an Indian wedding which places would you pick and why?
“My top three choices for a destination wedding would include:
Jaipur, Rajasthan: This destination is a favorite amongst couples for a reason. It gives you royal and classic vibes while allowing you to flaunt your contemporary style. Additionally one gets to pick from the best resorts and palaces.
Goa: Nothing can quite beat Goa when it comes to boisterous beach parties. Cocktails paired with Victorian style decor are absolutely amazing when surrounded by the pristine beaches.
Aamby Valley, Maharashtra: Over here every aspect of the wedding gets a majestic touch. From a traditional Banaras-style ghat that gives the nuptials a royal vibe to the waterpark where one can host crazy pool parties, this place has it all.”
5. From subtle elegance to flamboyant touches, each planner in the wedding industry has a signature style. How would you describe 7X Weddings’ style?
“We’ve done weddings in numerous styles, but our most requested style by far remains the royal and palatial one. However, we always make sure to keep the preferences and the vision of the bride and groom in mind. And even though we freely give suggestions, it is the couple who gives the final approval. Our style constantly adapts to the destination. For places like Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Jaipur, we lean towards a more royal style, while for destinations like Goa, the color palette changes with subtle hues that are soothing for the eyes. And for weddings close to nature, we chose cozy and earthy elements that blend effortlessly into the environment.”
6. With the ongoing COVID–19 pandemic, intimate weddings have witnessed a surge in popularity. What are your views on this and how do you think this impacts the wedding industry?
“The pandemic has taken a toll on every industry worldwide which also includes the Indian wedding industry. Keeping this in mind, couples are opting for grand yet intimate affairs that can be enjoyed with all safety norms in place. However, locations have started to play a bigger role than before. Earlier, there used to be a dearth of destinations, but now with changing trends, a plethora of small and big resorts have opened up their doors to host cozy and lavish weddings. And even though the pandemic has plunged many well-laid plans into chaos, couples still aren’t giving up on their vision of a luxurious wedding. While the size of the guest list has reduced, the scale of luxury hasn’t.”
7. Which is the best place to have an intimate wedding and why?
“Beaches are everyone’s first pick. But, personally, I love hill stations where nature’s beauty seeps through to give the celebrations an almost surreal and dreamy vibe. The lush rolling hills, pleasant climate, and peaceful surroundings all come together to make the union an unforgettable affair. And, such locations, in fact, allow your creativity to run free with their vast spaces.”
8. What are your predictions for the upcoming year in the wedding industry?
“For the next few months, I fully expect destination weddings to gain popularity. I think it’ll grow at least five times more, and as I mentioned earlier, the weddings won’t be equipped with long guest lists, but instead, will be filled to the brim with creativity and luxury.”
