Living up to our reputation of being forerunners and innovators in the wedding industry, WeddingSutra’s novel initiative has been conceptualized to honor industry professionals from the worlds of wedding and advertising. Their thought-leadership and flawless execution of tomorrow’s ideas have evolved and contoured the wedding market in the last one year. The awards which are powered by the Seychelles Tourism Board will take place on the 25th of April at the Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai.
Amongst the star-studded attendees, a unique highlight of the event will be our experience partners! Ten of the most recognized bridal fashion influencers – each designer will put together and present concept tables inspired by their latest bridal collections!
Arpita Mehta
Arpita Mehta, the new age force of fashion, began her label in 2007. The brand’s minimalism manages a seamless blend of ethnic and contemporary designs that enhance the feminine silhouette. Her latest Tropical Spring/ Summer 2018 Collection, Enchanted Forest, is a tapestry of nuanced color; melon green and ivory, along with hues of ruby and fuchsia. The collection will see a selection of 15 exquisite looks comprising lace-up tops, ruffled saris, trailed capes and embroidered bodysuits layered with sheer wrap full-length dresses.
Bhairavi Jaikishan
From a lineage of creative, talented people, Bhairavi Jaikishan’s foray into the fashion industry was a given. But since her first moments, in 1987, she has stood in her own spotlight and has built a reputation for modern, international renditions of traditional Indian ensembles. She’s not afraid to bring a large spectrum of color to her design and her style represents effortless luxury.
Nachiket Barve
This Mumbai based fashion designer’s eponymous label is the gold standard in modern, progressive design that’s clever yet commercial, timely yet timeless. He creates his own textiles with a modern interpretation of traditional Indian techniques. He uses color creatively, has a wonderful take on luxury and sophisticated glamor and the Nachiket Barve Label has become the harbinger of the future of design.
Natasha Dalal
Born and raised in Mumbai, Natasha Dalal, studied fashion design at the prestigious Fashion Institute Of Technology, New York. She started her eponymous label in Mumbai in 2013 and her designs are set apart by their romantic silhouettes and exquisite detailing featuring embroidered laces, delicate beading, featherweight tulle and rich silks. Across the semi formal and formal dresses, lehengas, gowns and most recently couture bridal wear, her signature has been to combine craftsmanship and opulence work with modern lines making every customer look like a showstopper.
Nikhil Thampi
A label synonymous to opulence and grace, Nikhil Thampi is one of the most renowned names in India’s fashion fraternity. Thampi’s luxury prêt wear and couture collections are distinguished by their silhouettes teased out of rich fabrics. The designer believes in comfortable, wearable fashion created out of grand designs. Nikhil’s signature pieces involve the balance of structure and fluidity with sharp cuts and striking color, highlighted with the use of unexpected elements.
Nishka Lulla
Nishka Lulla grew up dressing her Barbies in fine clothing and then fell in love with the process for real. Today, a designer to reckon with, she’s known for gravitating towards an easy, stylish aesthetic that draws inspiration from everyday luxe living and travel. The sum of its parts are greater than the whole when it comes to a collection that relies on the versatility of separates and the creative potential of the customer. Clean silhouettes and Indian accents make the entire range stand out.
Payal Singhal
Payal Singhal is an eponymous label, established in 1999 built on the cornerstone of modern contemporary Indian wear. Maximum impact with minimum effort remains the mainstay at the Payal Singhal atelier where tradition is treated with a renewed perspective. Specializing in Occasion Wear and Bridal Wear, the designer is the go-to choice for the modern bride.
Sherina Dalamal (Cherie D)
CHERIE D was created in the U.K, where designer Sherina Dalamal was born and raised. Her deep understanding of western cuts can be seen in her collections which encompass a range of silhouettes: baby doll dresses, tapered shirts and skirts and bridal wear are all enhanced by subtle embroidery and beadwork which add a hint of glitz. Cherie’s new line is a modern adaptation of classic Hollywood glamour. Each piece has a story to tell with beautiful craftsmanship, embroidery and cuts that are of a high European standard and perfect for the modern day bride.
Shivan & Narresh
India’s first beach and resort wear designers, Shivan Bhatia and Narresh Kukreja, National Institute of Fashion Technology alumni are an invincible team. Having launched India’s first and only swimwear brand ‘Shivan and Narresh’, over the years they’ve introduced innovations like Bikini Sarees and expanded their repertoire to include sleek gowns and contemporary lehengas. Their collections remain a unique alternative to conventional bridal dressing.
Shubhika Davda (Papa Don’t Preach By Shubhika)
Founder and head designer at Papa Don’t Preach, Shubhika Davda, studied design at the London College of Fashion. She started her own fashion boutique in Mumbai, at the age of 19 and went on to launch her couture label Papa Don’t Preach in 2010. Since its inception, Papa Don’t Preach has been synonymous with rebellion articulated in quirky, unique embroidery that mixes traditional Indian craftsmanship with new age techniques. Her Indian couture collection for 2018 is called ‘She’s like a ribbon around a bomb’ and includes ideas like structured-silk boyfriend jackets, sheer skirts on body-con mirror embroidered dresses, embellished jumpsuits and lehengas with metallic rivet detailing.
