Sobhita Dhulipala and Naga Chaitanya, Hyderabad
Actors Sobhita Dhulipala and Naga Chaitanya celebrated their union in true Telugu style!
Former Femina Miss India Earth and actress Sobhita Dhulipala and actor Naga Chaitanya, son of Telugu superstar Nagarjuna caused a frenzy when their engagement pictures surfaced on the internet. The duo, who had been dating since 2021, confirmed their relationship with their beautiful home engagement surrounded by their family, the pics of which left everyone in awe.
The couple’s wedding celebrations were divided between Nagarjuna’s family home and Annapurna Studios founded by Naga’s grandfather, Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR). Annapurna Studios spans 22 acres in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad and it is also one of the largest film production studios in India.
The couple’s wedding invitation was designed by WeddingSutra Favorite – Radhika Pitti Studio, who in tandem with the duo’s vision used pichwai and regional architectural elements in the scroll-style card. The restrained white-on-white embossed design inserts gave it a timeless appeal.
Engagement
Hosted at Nagarjuna’s home, the engagement was a simple and close-knit affair adorned with banana leaves, lotus blooms and a jhoola where the couple took their portrait pictures. Sobhita’s radiant makeup and refreshing peach ensemble by Manish Malhotra was perfectly accessorised with a gajra of vibrant aboli blooms in her braid.
Godhuma Rayi Pasupu Danchadam
This ceremony included women from the bride and groom’s families grinding raw turmeric and wheat together to symbolize the union of the two families. The turmeric is then used to purify the couple before marriage. Preceded by a Ganesh Puja, this event was a simple one for Sobhita and Naga. Adorned with vintage wooden elements and regional blooms, like, lotus, marigolds and tuberoses, the event was a sunkissed one. Sobhita donned a multi-hued ‘Ganga-Jamuna’ border silk saree with jhumkas and minimal gold necklaces.
Pelli Kuthuru
Traditionally a ceremony prevalent in Telugu weddings, Mangala Snanam which translates to ‘Holy Bath’ is a ritual in which the bride and groom are supposed to take an auspicious bath to purify them for the upcoming rituals. In Sobhita’s case, this event also doubled up as a haldi. The couple’s loved ones were at their playful best as they slathered the actress with turmeric and showered her with water and flowers. For her outfit, Sobhita kept it simple with a mustard zari-bordered saree and a bandeau blouse. Traditional gold jewellery completed the look.
Mangal Snanam and Ratha Sthapna
Hosted a few days before the wedding, the Pelli Kuthuru stayed true to the bride’s love for all things traditional. Vintage frames depicting Goddess Durga, marigolds, glass bangles, and cane baskets brimming with mogra and conches were used generously in the decor. At Pelli Kuthuru a paste of flour and turmeric called ‘naluga’ is applied to the bride and groom to cleanse them for the upcoming sacred rituals. Shobhita looked stunning as she donned a rich red saree with gold butti work which she paired with a full-sleeved blouse. A Vanki armlet, gold anklets, pearl finger gold necklace and jhumkas along with a statement maang tikka completed the look.
Pellikoduku
The groom’s Pellikoduku (the groom’s haldi ceremony) was a minimalistic affair with subtle floral setups and plenty of playful moments. Mogra was used generously in the decor while the groom had a fun time with his loved ones. Actor Rana Daggubati was also in attendance along with Chay’s close-knit circle of family and friends.
Wedding
Suspended blooms, a floral backdrop, lush banana leaves and plenty of joy marked Sobhita and Naga’s union. Sobhita wore a traditional Kanjivaram gold silk saree while Naga Chaitanya complemented her in a matching ensemble. He also paid tribute to his grandfather by wearing a ‘Pancha’ for the wedding. For the ‘Thali Bottu Kattadam’ ceremony, where the groom ties the mangalsutra/thali around the bride’s neck, Sobhita opted for a white saree with wide red borders. Traditional Telugu jewels, like, the Vanki armlet, Vadanam (the waist belt) along with several layered necklaces accessorised both her looks.
