Dolly and Sushane, Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort, Fujairah
Dolly and Sushane made sure all the boxes were ticked at their Fujairah wedding – fun, family and staying faithful to tradition.
After a memorable proposal, Dolly and Sushane planned their lavish wedding celebrations at the luxurious Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort, Fujairah with well-planned events, from a youngster’s night to a seaside celebration. Here, we share details from their love story and highlights from the nuptials planned by WeddingSutra Favorite Vivaah Weddings and beautifully captured by another WeddingSutra Favorite Fotografia9.
How we met
Dolly works in the construction industry while Sushane works in digital marketing. They met while playing badminton and Sushane was elated to discover that Dolly was single. After a couple of amazing dates, it was time for a Christmas break and Dolly went home to Dubai, Sushane to Glasgow.
After messaging and Skyping through the break, when Dolly came back, Sushane asked her to be his girlfriend. A year later, he popped the question in New Forest, complete with a magical playlist and a handmade storybook that featured their journey so far. He’d done even more – Sushane had asked Dolly’s father for her hand in marriage. A very charming, old-fashioned thing and Dolly couldn’t but help say yes to this true gentleman.
Wedding Venue
The couple had hosted their engagement celebrations in April 2017 at the W Hotel, Dubai but the hustle and bustle outside bothered them a little. Dolly’s family then decided to revisit Le Meridian in Fujairah where they’d enjoyed several staycations. Sushane’s family loved the resort and felt it was like a home away from home. There was just one little worry. The hotel had never hosted a big Indian wedding before and it had only one function hall.
But the family did the maths. Not only would the venue banish the need to move guests from one place to another, they could also give every evening a different feel via reimagined décor. And that’s how they decided.
Wedding Functions
Youngsters Night
The festivities began with this black tie event. The couple wanted to reverse the usual sequence of events and started with the reception as they didn’t trust that everyone would show up in a black tie after three days of wild drinking, dancing and madness. With a theme of an enchanted forest, the venue with its strings of party lights and beautiful décor cast a cheerful and warm glow. Everyone looked amazing.
Ghari Pooja
This traditional ceremony for the bride took place in the morning and despite having gone to bed only a couple of hours prior, Dolly’s friends and family showed great enthusiasm by turning up! The ceremony was followed by lunch, a haldi pooja and a ceremony for the groom. Meanwhile, the bride had her mehndi done. Sushane was thrown into the sea to cleanse himself after his haldi ceremony whilst Dolly sipped on a cold beverage and caught up with friends.
Sangeet Night
The sangeet night was an entertaining evening with dance performances and speeches from the fathers and brothers. The night was filled with songs and dancing and made for the perfect start to this joyous occasion.
Wedding
The wedding day was filled with unforgettable experiences for the couple. Dolly had a fun photo shoot with her friends. Sushane had to mount a horse for the first time in his life. The blue baraat assembled at the #dollane helipad and danced their way to the Milini ceremony. Garlands were worn, brothers picked each other up and the ladies had dance-offs. Finally, the bride arrived dancing with her siblings and close friends. She was pleased to lift Sushane’s sehra and see the man she knew she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. The beautiful beach wedding witnessed the sea and sky forming an immaculate backdrop. In the evening, there was a seaside celebration followed by an after party at the rooftop club. With the black tie out the way on the first night, everyone let their hair down and partied until the first airport pickups arrived!
Advice for Couples
The bride says, “Spend time with your respective families before the wedding. Get involved. All the ceremonies are a given, depending on your religious beliefs and family traditions, but make the time between them count. We took the time to sit down with both sets of parents and establish ceremonies and traditions important to them very early on, which helped us ensure we made time to do the important stuff (actually get married) and make the days entertaining and fun! Enjoy every minute of it. This goes without saying but whether you’re a control freak or a completely relaxed person. Enjoy the parties and ceremonies equally, it’s a once in a lifetime experience of happiness, intense emotion, joy and hopefulness which you’ll remember forever.”
