Heeren and Satvik, Thailand
Their story began with a song and so it was only fitting that their first dance was to a song they recorded themselves.
The first time Heeren and Satvik met, he serenaded her with his beautiful singing voice. It marked the start of a relationship that would lead to a wonderful wedding in Phuket, Thailand, surrounded by their loved ones.
Their celebrations were planned by WeddingSutra Favorite – Wizkim Wedding Design and Styling. The bride takes us through their story.
How They Met
“I was born and raised in Singapore, Satvik moved there about 10 years ago. In 2016, we were out with friends at a bar when a mutual friend introduced us. There was an instant connection! That same night, he sang ‘Tum Hi Ho’ to me. Our eyes were locked the entire time. The fact that he’s a great singer just fuelled our emotions. We got together in January 2017 and by December 2018, we were engaged!”
The Proposal
“We’d planned a trip to Dubai in the winter to visit my sister and attend a wedding. When we landed he told me he’d booked us into a hotel for two nights. Two hours later we pulled up to the Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa. The property is gorgeous, in the middle of the desert and Satvik took me to the rooftop bar. Then he showed me a secret Instagram account. It was filled with pictures and videos of all our milestones, our memories. The posts had been uploaded on the same days these moments happened. When he showed me a clip that had him saying, “Will you marry me?” from a year ago I realised he’d been thinking and planning this proposal for such a long time!
We came to the last post which said, ‘Our lives are about to change’. Then we were escorted to a beautiful set up in the desert. The sun was setting in the backdrop, and he got down on one knee and proposed! We both got so emotional immersed in the moment. We wrapped up the night with an amazing dinner in a private cabana with our own butler, cocktails, shisha and a secluded bonfire set up.”
Wedding Venue
“We love to travel and we love the beach so Phuket was the perfect destination. It’s close to Singapore and has amazing beaches with beautiful turquoise waters. We fell in love with the Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort, almost as soon as we saw it. Its beautiful lawn that overlooked the waters helped us imagine how amazing the mandap would look there. We were planning an intimate wedding and the resort seemed perfect for our guest list. The team at the resort was also kind and accommodating throughout!”
Wedding Planning
“We got Wizkim Wedding Design and Styling on board only a month and a half before the wedding! You can only imagine how stressful that was but the team was heaven sent! We were so strapped for time but Sagar made the process seamless. We wanted simple, elegant decor – a mix of pastels and bright colors, emphasising the beach vibe. Sagar immediately clocked our preferences and was confident he could create a setup that reflected our personalities. The whole team was such a delight to work with and we forged a connection with all of them!
Colomono Studio were our photographers who felt nothing less than our friends! We loved their work and more importantly we loved their team! Paveena Rathour, my makeup artist is not just super-talented but also such an amazing individual. She goes out of her way to engage with her brides and makes them feel so beautiful on their big day. My hairstylist, Ruching Arya, was amazing too and she gave my hair a different look each day.
I came across Prune India on Instagram and fell in love with their designs so I ordered all my floral jewelry from them. Our wedding favors were curated by Design Tuk Tuk.”
Wedding Functions
Haldi
“We had a joint haldi ceremony with our immediate families in attendance on the amazing terrace of my hilltop suite. The room is at the highest elevation on the property and views of the entire resort and the ocean beyond form the backdrop.
We went with a yellow theme of course – our outfits in contrast with the blue water in the background. Colored smoke bombs went off through the ceremony and we used a traditional Phulkari Dupatta as we walked in for a Punjabi touch.”
Mehendi
“The mehendi was hosted by the pool with a bright theme. In colors ranging from green and blue to pink and yellow, there were drapes, colorful signages, hanging umbrellas, and a backdrop made of tassels! We also had a cocktail list that included drinks named Lungi Island, Chennai Shaker, Patiala Sling and Balle Bombs inspired by our respective places of origin!”
South Indian Wedding
“As we’d imagined when we first came to the resort, our mandap was set up on the beautiful Kamala Lawn overlooking the beach. In tones of pink, peach and white, it complemented my bright pink Kanchipuram saree. Leading us to the canopy was an aisle covered in flowers.
The nuptials were followed by a South Indian style lunch with food served on banana leaves. We had a chef flown in especially from Kochi, Kerala and the afternoon was a big hit as our guests just loved how wonderfully everything was executed.”
Sangeet
“We’d planned the sangeet on the lawns but the weather was unpredictable so we moved the celebrations indoors. The ambience was glamorous and romantic – a dark color palette dominated by black and purple with rose gold accents. Candles were part of the dance floor backdrop and the centerpieces and the low seating was covered in shimmery fabric.”
Sikh Wedding
“The Sikh wedding ceremony was conducted at the Gurdwara Siri Guru Singh Sabha Phuket. We wanted to keep it traditional and minimal. Our clothes were all in hues of salmon. The men wore headcovers in the same color. My nephew came in with a sign that read ‘Here comes the bride’, which we’d ordered from Design Tuk Tuk Dubai.”
Reception
“White feathers dominated the décor set up at our reception and were part of the backdrop and the centerpieces. These touches of drama piqued the sophisticated decor with its white, peach and pink palette with hints of gold. The mix of long and round tables were decorated with floral and mirror elements. I wore a pink and silver lehenga with birds embroidered on the skirt and feathers on the sleeve and dupatta, an outfit chosen keeping in mind the theme. You have to know that my husband is a very good singer (goodness knows that’s how I fell in love with him in the first place) and his YouTube channel has garnered over 3 million views for his song covers! So of course there had to be singing! We recorded a cover of the song ‘Zara Zara’ from Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein. He sang the original Tamil version and I sang the Hindi parts. We recorded it, produced the music and performed to it!”
Advice For Couples
“1. Truly enjoy every part of the planning process but also remember to put together a wedding that makes you two happy.
2. Don’t stress about things that are not in your control and choose vendors whom you have full faith in!
3. Soak in the joyous spirit of the events to the fullest because it will go by faster than you know it! Just immerse yourself in the celebrations of the biggest day of your lives.”
