Kanchi and Karthik, Taj Gorbandh Palace, Jaisalmer
Taking a cue from the local Rajasthani culture while paying homage to their heritage, this couple’s destination wedding was an exuberant one!
For Kanchi and Kartik, WeddingSutra Favorite – Shreem Events brought their families together for a multi-day wedding celebration at Taj Gorbandh Palace, Jaisalmer, beautifully captured by WeddingSutra Favorite – Raabta by Shrey Bhagat. Rooted in the bride’s Rajasthani heritage and the groom’s family traditions, the festivities brought together culture, celebration and the distinctive character of the Golden City.

Wedding Venue
Taj Gorbandh Palace offered the right setting for the celebrations, with its heritage architecture and expansive surroundings providing a natural backdrop for the wedding. Jaisalmer became more than a venue because of its history, architecture, desert landscape, and deep cultural character; it became the canvas on which both families could tell their story.

Wedding Planning
The celebrations began with the arrival of the immediate family at Taj Gorbandh Palace. The first evening included a traditional Bandoli for the bride’s family at Lodarwa Temple, followed by a Roogop dinner at First Gate, overlooking Jaisalmer Fort. As the wider guest list began arriving the following day, Shreem Events created a welcome experience rooted in the destination, with guests greeted by the sound of the Ravanahatha and traditional dhol players.
The limited flight connectivity to Jaisalmer meant that several guests arrived well before the hotel’s conventional check-in window. Shreem Events turned this logistical challenge into part of the celebration, curating an intimate Haldi as an arrival experience. Guests could transition directly from their journey into the festivities, enjoy lunch and then proceed to their rooms once they were ready. “We wanted every touchpoint to feel connected to Jaisalmer, rather than simply being part of a wedding itinerary,” shared Devanshi Patel of Shreem Events. “The destination itself became an important part of how we planned the guest experience.”
The culinary experience followed the same approach, with a welcome lunch introducing guests to Rajasthan through dal baati and other regional delicacies. Across the celebrations, Shreem Events worked with two families and their distinct traditions, giving each its own space while keeping the overall experience cohesive. “For us, it was never about blending everything into one aesthetic,” Devanshi explained. “It was about allowing each tradition to retain its identity while creating a celebration that felt connected from beginning to end.” From the Rajasthani Mehfil and Ravanahatha performances to the dhol-led festivities, ‘banana leaf dining’, and lively disco night, every event had its own character. Together, they created a wedding that reflected the couple and the families they brought together.
Capturing the celebrations was Raabta by Shrey Bhagat, whose photography brought the wedding’s many moments to life, from the intimate family gatherings and vibrant traditions to the candid interactions that unfolded across the festivities.
Wedding Functions
Haldi
The Haldi was intimate and relaxed, with live dhol setting the mood for the festivities. A Ravanahatha artist performed an instrumental rendition of ‘Padharo Mare Desh’, gradually building the energy before the dhol players took over and led guests into the celebrations.

Mehfil Night
The evening shifted into an understated Mehfil Night, which was designed as a gathering for both families. The décor remained elegant and restrained, allowing Jaisalmer’s architecture and atmosphere to take centre stage. The soulful music of Kutle Khan brought the region’s musical heritage into the evening, while the décor, entertainment and menu were curated to reflect the spirit of Rajasthan without overwhelming the celebration.

Wedding
The wedding took place beneath majestic Banyan trees, with a mandap surrounded by banana leaves, traditional floral detailing and classic ceremonial elements. The décor was organic and understated, allowing the palace and its surroundings to remain part of the setting.
The celebrations began with an indoor Baraat within the palace, featuring a vintage car and dhol players, followed by a traditional Marwari welcome for the groom.
The bride’s arrival was kept simple and memorable. The magnificent doors of the Palace opened to reveal her, while two young members of the family created a floral aisle, showering her with flowers as she walked towards the mandap. The couple exchanged varmalas amidst a shower of rose petals. The ceremony continued with the ‘Oonjal ceremony’ and traditional wedding rituals, alongside key Marwari Hindu wedding traditions that honoured the bride’s heritage. The celebrations allowed both families to see their traditions represented without compromising the flow of the ceremony. The post-ceremony dining experience continued the theme, with guests seated for a traditional meal served on banana leaves.

Sangeet
With Kanchi herself being a choreographer, the Sangeet was led by friends and family through specially curated performances. The evening was high-energy and personal, with the entire wedding party eventually taking to the dance floor. The celebrations transitioned into a full-fledged disco night, with back-to-back performances followed by an energetic after-party. A curated bar experience and interactive photo booth with instant prints added to the evening, making the final celebration a lively gathering of the couple’s closest friends and family.
