Kismat Kaur Gill and Sukhjeevan Singh Dhillon, Fateh Vilas by Fateh Collection, Udaipur

A reflection of the couple’s love for their Punjabi roots, this destination wedding brimmed with customised elements and glamour.

Kismat Kaur Gill and Sukhjeevan Singh Dhillon’s wedding in Udaipur brought together 250 guests from across the world for a week rooted in Punjabi heritage, Sikh traditions and the couple’s own story. Planned and designed by WeddingSutra Favorite – F5 Weddings and photographed by WeddingSutra Favorite – Prakash Creation, the celebrations moved from intimate family rituals and vibrant Punjabi festivities to a serene Anand Karaj and an energetic finale, with each event bringing its own character while remaining connected to the couple’s timeless aesthetic.

How They Met
Kismat and Sukhjeevan, fondly known as Jeevan, met by chance in London in February 2023 while Kismat was on holiday. “We clicked instantly and spent the entire day together,” recalls Kismat. A week later, they made their relationship official in Amsterdam and began a long-distance relationship between London and Melbourne. For the next three years, they made it a point to meet every three months, alternating trips between the two cities.

Wedding Planning
Having spent three years navigating a 10,000-mile long-distance relationship, the couple wanted their wedding to bring their families together in one place. They chose Udaipur as their ‘halfway house’, a city that also held special meaning as Jeevan had proposed to Kismat in the surrounding hills a year earlier.

F5 Weddings brought their vision together across the week, balancing Punjabi traditions and Sikh values with a strong focus on celebration. “The idea was to create a wedding that felt personal to Kismat and Jeevan, while giving every event its own character,” share Purvi and Ajay Modgil of F5 Weddings. “The décor was always meant to feel classic, considered and connected to their story.” Prakash Creation documented the celebrations, capturing the larger festivities as well as the quieter family moments.

Kismat says choosing F5 Weddings was one of the best decisions they made. “From our very first conversation, Purvi and her team took the time to understand our vision, our personalities and what we wanted each celebration to feel like. They were always available, patient with every change and incredibly reassuring whenever I felt overwhelmed.” The couple kept the overall aesthetic timeless, deliberately avoiding passing trends. “I wanted every single look to be timeless, unique to Jeevan and me, and completely authentic to our story,” says Kismat. The same approach extended to the décor, with each celebration designed to feel purposeful while staying rooted in tradition.

Wedding Functions
Bride’s Mehndi & Sahi Chithe
The wedding festivities opened with Kismat’s Mehndi and the traditional Sahi Chithe. In this Punjabi custom, the bride’s family formally delivers the wedding invitation to the groom’s family. The couple gave the tradition a personal touch by having the invitation hand-engraved onto a solid copper plate instead of using a conventional paper invitation. The Mehndi set the tone for the celebrations with a warm, intimate gathering of family and friends, while the Sahi Chithe added a meaningful beginning to the wedding week.

Welcome Lunch
The Welcome Lunch was designed as a relaxed afternoon of cocktails, lunch and easy conversation. With guests arriving after long journeys, the couple opted for a summer-casual setting where everyone could settle in and reconnect. “Having all our loved ones gather in India felt surreal,” says Kismat. “It was our favourite event because our friends and family mean everything to us.” Guests travelled from Australia, the UK, Canada, Hong Kong, America and Singapore, with many visiting India for the first time.

Chunni Chadai
That evening brought the formal engagement celebrations with the traditional Chunni Chadai and Shagun ceremony. Jeevan’s mother and sisters placed a pink phulkari over Kismat’s head, formally welcoming her into the family. For the couple, the coming together of their families was the highlight. “The most unforgettable sight was watching Jeevan’s large family greet mine, with both sides walking down the stairs together as one,” says Kismat. The evening soon turned into a lively Punjabi celebration, with their non-Indian friends joining in and dancing alongside everyone else.

Haldi
Coming from Punjab’s Majha region, Kismat’s family refers to the Haldi as the Maiyaan. Held on the second day of the wedding week, the ceremony embraced the playful side of the tradition. The afternoon quickly moved beyond the ritual itself as family and friends covered the couple in turmeric, followed by beer and a poolside celebration. “We embraced tradition in its most spirited and chaotic form,” says Kismat, recalling how she and Jeevan eventually ended up in the swimming pool.

Sangeet and Jaggo
The Sangeet and Jaggo brought the couple’s Punjabi heritage to the centre of their Udaipur wedding. The décor focused on authentic details rather than a conventional stage setup, with rustic manje, colourful phulkaris, traditional charke and pakiyan creating the feel of a Punjabi village courtyard. The setting was vibrant and nostalgic, with the traditional elements giving the evening a strong sense of place. Music, performances and dancing kept the celebration energetic through the night.

Chooda Ceremony
Held later that night, Kismat’s Chooda ceremony was an intimate family gathering. Traditionally performed by the bride’s maternal uncles, the ritual took on added significance as her brothers and her late maternal uncle’s children stepped in. Each bangle was dipped in rose milk before being placed on her wrists. The family also chose to open up the usually private ceremony to friends from both sides. Jeevan stayed beside Kismat and her family, holding her mother as she became emotional. It was a deeply personal moment that brought the focus back to family after an energetic evening of celebrations.

Wedding
The wedding was the most important ceremony of the week for the couple. With Sikhism central to their lives, they wanted the setting to be serene and understated, keeping the focus on the sacredness of the ceremony. The décor featured clean, regal florals, abundant natural light and an uncluttered layout. “This ceremony was not predominantly about us, but about our appreciation, humility and gratitude to God,” says Kismat. The restrained setting created a sense of calm against the grandeur of the palace, offering a marked contrast to the colour and energy of the Jaggo while retaining the timeless aesthetic that defined the wedding.

Reception and After-Party
The wedding concluded with a reception against the palace façade, bringing all 250 guests together for one final celebration. The evening continued with music, dancing and an energetic party atmosphere that reflected the couple’s love for celebrations and their international lives.

The party continued into the early hours, eventually moving into a Boiler Room-inspired after-party, a personal reference to one of the couple’s early dates together. “It was the ultimate homage to our shared love for dance music and our early dating days when we went to a Boiler Room together,” says Kismat. “From the sacred traditions of the wedding to dancing under the neon lights until dawn, every element was a reflection of who we are. It was memorable, full of heart and quintessentially us.”
