Set against the tranquil shores of Thailand, designer Kriti Ahuja and Aditya Ochani’s destination wedding at JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa unfolded as a thoughtfully curated three-day celebration that balanced personal storytelling with visual details. Photographed with nuance by WeddingSutra Favorite – Knotting Bells, the wedding reflected a strong design sensibility, hardly surprising, given that the bride herself is a designer and closely collaborated on every creative decision.
Wedding Venue
Thailand’s laid-back elegance and natural beauty made it an inspired choice for Kriti and Aditya’s wedding, with JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa offering the perfect canvas. Surrounded by lush landscapes and a serene beachfront, the resort allowed each event to flow seamlessly, from sunlit daytime gatherings to atmospheric evening celebrations, while lending the festivities a sense of escapism and understated luxury.
Wedding Planning
The wedding was planned as a deeply visual and experiential celebration, shaped by the bride’s own design-led approach and brought to life through close collaboration with Knotting Bells, who not only documented the festivities but also understood how to frame each moment with clarity and emotion. From the very beginning, the focus was on creating layered experiences rather than standalone events.
Guests were welcomed into The Glam Room, a curated salon-style space complete with florals, champagne, and thoughtful pampering touches. Kriti personally visualised and created the wedding mood board, ensuring a cohesive narrative across all events. Design details, like the white globe guestbook that doubled as décor, butter candles with custom matchboxes for the sit-down dinner, and immersive rainforest visuals for the Sangeet, added a dash of originality. The celebrations also carried a strong emotional undercurrent, shaped in part by the father of the bride, whose involvement and presence lent the wedding a heartfelt dimension that resonated throughout.
Wedding Functions
Welcome Lunch
Styled around a Surf & Turf theme, the welcome lunch set a relaxed yet refined tone. Guests were greeted with a breezy daytime affair that blended laid-back luxury with thoughtful personalisation. The white globe guestbook, juice and beer bars, and custom coconut stations were all styled to echo the summer mood board.
Sangeet
The Rainforest Rave-themed Sangeet transformed the ballroom into a lush, immersive forest. Hanging greens, dynamic LED visuals, and the haunting ‘White Lotus’ soundtrack created a cinematic atmosphere which was part disco, part dreamscape, which felt both unexpected and transportive.
Mehendi Lunch
For the Mehendi, the mood softened into florals and pastels. Antique décor accents, paired with a sugarcane and coconut juice counter, brought an old-world charm to an otherwise light and leisurely afternoon.
Sit-Down Dinner and Afterparty
The candlelit sit-down dinner unfolded as an intimate, elegant evening. Guests lit butter-mould candles using custom matchboxes to begin the meal, while speeches were seamlessly woven between courses. A light-hearted family roast emerged as a standout moment, filling the room with laughter. As the night deepened, the celebrations transitioned into a high-energy afterparty styled like a Roman nightclub, complete with neon lights, grand statues, and a playful ball pit for the younger guests.
Wedding and Reception
Against the natural beauty of the Khao Lak beach, Kriti made a memorable entry, walking in with her brothers under a floral chaadar. The wedding took place beneath an acrylic mandap adorned with cascading florals, creating an ethereal setting by the sea. Later that evening, the couple shared their first dance surrounded by dry ice clouds, before popping champagne to bring their celebrations to a joyous close.
