Madhur and Aditya, Raddison Blu, Alibaug
A chance meeting, two very different personalities, and a destination wedding to remember… The bride tells us how it all came together.
Extroverted Aditya had to work a little harder than he imagined when he chatted up Madhur the first time he saw her in a bar. But years later, the match made in heaven had a blissful wedding in Alibaug.
How We Met
“We met three years ago at a bar in Melbourne. He was with his friends and I was with mine. Apart from us bunch there was no one else at the bar at that point. Aditya walked up to me and pointed to the empty chair beside me and asked if he could borrow it. I nodded and said go ahead but then he just wouldn’t budge. He chatted me up and asked if I’d like to meet him for coffee. I said I didn’t know him enough to meet. That night I received a friend request from him on Facebook. We ended up chatting pretty much every day from then on. He found out I was a coffee fanatic and asked me out on a coffee date. This time I agreed. Coffee led to brunch and brunch to dinner. Soon after we began dating.”
Wedding Planning
“We both wanted a destination wedding, one that was more of a party with our friends and family. We didn’t want people to travel too far to get to the venue either, which is how we decided on Alibaug. After scouting around for a few properties, we decided to get married at the Radisson Blu. The property is gorgeous and just fit in with our vision of the 2-day wedding we had in mind.”
Wedding Functions
Mehndi/Haldi
“Fusion artwork, pin wheel dupattas, live stations, pan carts, fortune tellers, gola stands amidst vibrant windmills made up the decor. The ceremony was a mix of traditional Sindhi and Gujarati themes. I wore a traditional Gujarati lehenga and Aditya looked handsome in a quintessential silk kurta and pyjama.”
Sangeet
“The sangeet was a Bollywood style dance fest with royal blue dominating the décor. There were plenty of outstanding performances including those by Aditya and I, our families and friends. We had shisha stands in the middle of tables, dim lighting and the outdoor set up had an open bar. I wore a custom blue lehenga from a boutique in Dubai paired with bespoke jewellery from Al Haseena Jewellers in Dubai.”
Pool Party
“We wanted the guests to have a good time before the ceremony, therefore the pool party. Low level seating with ferns and flowers, wooden decor, lots of colorful props, live barbeque cooking stations were set up at the venue.”
Wedding
“The wedding day in itself was a never-to-forget experience in the great outdoors. A white wedding aisle was set up offset with a dominant pink. Arches and hoardings were set up everywhere, making the vibe even more surreal. I wore a gorgeous red Sabyasachi lehenga with a beautiful Kundan set that was the perfect regal ensemble. My groom matched perfectly with his bride in a pastel sherwani.”
Reception
The reception was held at NCPA lawns in Mumbai. Vintage gold being the theme for this evening, the decor was done entirely in gold and white. The bride wore a sparkly gold number by Sabyasachi and accessorized it with a custom made diamond and ruby set.
Advice for to-be-wed couples
“Enjoy every moment to the fullest. We had an absolute blast at our wedding thanks to our family who ensured we enjoyed every event without worrying about anything at all. Also, it is absolutely vital to get an event planner. It eases the tension of having to micro manage everything.”
