Margi and Kishan, Royal Cliff Jomtien, Thailand
From a pink mandap, pop art dance floor to the color-coordinated family of the bride, Margi and Kishan's wedding in Thailand was meticulously planned.
They wanted to wow their guests, so Margi and Kishan pulled out all the stops when planning their wedding. Designed to wow with innovative themes and striking decor, the celebrations at holiday hotspot Pattaya meticulously planned by WeddingSutra Favorite Krish Events were a hit with all. Bride Margi shares details below.
How We Met
“In December 2016 Kishan was visiting India, and I had just moved to India. We were both attending the same wedding in Surat where we first met. The awkwardness of meeting someone when surrounded by thousands of people didn’t leave much space for any conversation other than a very quick ‘Hello.’ Kishan was heading to Mumbai after the wedding. When he realised that I lived in Mumbai, he hatched a plan to strike up a conversation with me at the reception! He knew I was from Thailand and started speaking loudly to his friends about his recent visit to Thailand. I overheard and became intrigued about who was talking about my home country. We got talking (about everything I was interested in because he had done his research!) and he asked me to show him around Mumbai. We met for dinner in Mumbai and decided to grab coffee the next day. Our coffee date turned into lunch which led to us walking on the boardwalk and finally ended after dinner near the beach. We realized there was something special between us that kept us wanting to see and talk to each other regularly. Our love story wasn’t an ordinary one – it was one of an instant connection.”
Proposal
“After countless WhatsApp calls, late night Skype sessions, and FaceTime sessions, Kishan knew I was the one and called my dad and asked for permission to marry me. Shortly after that, my family planned a trip to the US for the engagement ceremony, but Kishan wanted to organize a proper proposal as well. He worked closely with our family and friends to plan the perfect proposal. He told me there was no need for a proposal because they already had set the engagement date and I was very disappointed (I tried not to show it). Of course, Kishan being the closet romantic he is had already gotten the ring weeks in advance and had planned the perfect proposal for me! With the engagement date set for Saturday, he knew that he couldn’t take me out to a nice dinner on Friday as I would know it was coming. Instead, he took me out for dinner on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and every night I thought he would propose – but it never happened. Finally, after the last dinner on Friday, I realized there was no proposal happening, and I became sad but tried to act normal. Little did I know, Kishan was having my dream proposal set up at home. He used an excuse to stop by at home and when we got to his house he opened the doors to beautifully lit candles, rose petals, fairy lights, and luminary bags that read ‘Marry me?’ I was so mesmerized I didn’t even realize he was already on one knee with the ring in his hand!”
Wedding Functions
Mehndi/ Garba
“With an enchanted forest theme for this function, decor elements like a pop art dance floor, roses, and floral backdrop photos were arranged. It was my dream to design outfits for everyone in my gigantic joint Gujarati family! It was a little too much to do with all the other wedding preparations, but I managed to convince all of them to wear coordinated outfits and was able to pick the color scheme, fabrics, and print. Then I let them customize their outfits according to their likes from a local designer in Surat.”
Haldi/ Pooja
“This was a simple function as it was a pooja, but we had floral decor and a swing which was adorned with flowers! Gujarati’s don’t do haldi like this, but I wanted it that way, and it turned out to be so much fun!”
Bohemian Pool Party
“Dream catchers, silver pineapple centerpieces, a pastel color scheme, giveaways such as coordinated rose printed shirts for the men, and butterfly printed kimonos for the ladies, floral headbands, drinks, and a photo booth were some of the funky elements from this party. This was the most fun event that we hosted!”
Sangeet
“I’ve been obsessed with Paris for as long as I can remember and decided to plan the sangeet decor around the popular French saying “La Vie en Rose.” With the Palace of Versailles as the stage backdrop, Eiffel Tower glasses, polaroid printing photo booth, a macaroon tower and floral centerpieces, the venue looked like something out of a dream sequence.”
Wedding and Reception
“The wedding was a memorable day for everyone with a pink mandap, flowers everywhere and my bridal entry on a Thai style ‘doli’ (palanquin). My brothers escorted me to the mandap holding a hexagon-shaped ‘chunri’ (cloth canopy) over my head. It never rains in December in Thailand, but on my wedding day, we knew we would get some showers. It was a crazy day for my father and our wedding planner who is a close family friend as both played a major role in all the planning. They were debating if they should move the wedding indoors. The best part was they did everything they could to make sure my dream sunset wedding by the sea took place. The event took place exactly how we had planned it, except of course it was darker earlier, there were fewer lights, and we didn’t have any LED screens as there were already minor short-circuits happening. We had also placed pink and white paper umbrellas in case it was too sunny in the beginning, and these were very useful when it started drizzling. Our amazing friends and family weren’t worried about a little rain and didn’t leave their seats! For the reception, we had beautiful aerial dancers, ladies with feathers, a doughnut wall, ice cream truck, white decor accents and twinkling fairy lights covering the wall.”
Advice for Couples
“Don’t stress too much! There is nothing wrong with taking help from your parents and whoever is willing to help! Initially, I wanted to be involved in everything, from the food and decor to everyone’s outfits! At the end, my family and my parent’s friends took over and did all the heavy lifting and I still got everything I wanted. Couples should try to enjoy the moments from the beginning to the end. At the end of the day no one will notice all the little details other than you, so if something goes wrong do not stress too much. Try to spend time with each other too because these few days are completely dedicated to you and your partner!”
