Purti Pareek and Amit Persaud, Six Senses Fort Barwara, Rajasthan
Inspired by the couple’s Indo-Guyanese and American backgrounds, this wedding was a thoughtful celebration of family, culture and joy.
Purti Pareek and Amit Persaud’s wedding in Rajasthan was a celebration of family, heritage and shared cultures. Purti grew up in New York with strong roots in Jaipur, while Amit comes from an Indo-Guyanese family where South Asian traditions have always been part of family life through food, music, stories and rituals. Planned by WeddingSutra Favorite – One World United, the celebrations were designed to feel warm, relaxed and experience-led rather than overly staged. From the food and music to the rituals and guest experiences, the wedding was built around creating moments that felt genuine and inclusive.

Wedding Planning
The wedding vision centred on homecoming, heritage, joy and conscious celebration. One World United worked with the couple to create events that complemented the venue rather than transforming it, allowing the fort’s historic architecture to remain central.
“The brief was never about creating something simply beautiful. It was about creating something that felt unmistakably Purti and Amit,” says Harshul Kothari of One World United. “Every element had to have a reason, whether it connected to their families, their cultures, their values or simply to making their guests happy.”
Sustainability was woven into the celebrations through repurposed florals, biodegradable materials, natural dyes and locally crafted elements. Personal choices included replacing kanyadaan with kanyamaan, opting out of a vidaai, displaying family photographs across the sangeet and reception, and creating Indian-Mexican fusion menus. Local artisans led pottery and block-printing sessions, while the couple and their families also visited Vimukti Sanstha in Jaipur following a wedding donation to support its students. Two weeks before the wedding, international travel disruptions caused by war and conflict affected several guests. With flights cancelled and routes changing, the couple remained flexible, while early-arriving guests turned the extra time into an extended Rajasthan experience, including sunrise tiger safaris in Ranthambore and food stops in Jaipur.
“The couple were very clear that the wedding should reflect what they genuinely believe in,” Harshul adds. “That allowed us to move beyond convention and create a celebration that was intimate, inclusive and rooted in their story.”

Wedding Functions
Welcome Dinner & Mehndi
The celebrations began with a ‘Safari Chic’ welcome evening on the Spa Terrace, inspired by Ranthambore and Rajasthan’s landscape. Earthy tones, layered rugs and Chandigarh chairs created a relaxed setting against the fort. The Indian-Mexican menu included butter chicken enchiladas, Kashmiri lamb mole, paneer quesadillas and Mexican-style mirchi vadas, alongside tamarind margaritas and mezcal negronis. The evening also marked Amit’s birthday, with gajar ka halwa, churros and a hot fudge sundae bar joining the birthday cake.

Haldi
The poolside Haldi took its cues from a Mediterranean day club, with seasonal florals, natural dyes and biodegradable décor. Spritzes, jamun cocktails, seafood paella, dips, skewers and sorbets kept the afternoon light and informal. Guests could also take part in pottery and block-printing sessions with local artisans. Speeches from friends added a personal touch before Purti ended the afternoon with a playful pool jump.

Cocktail Hour and Sangeet
The cocktail hour and sangeet unfolded across the Rajawat Room and courtyard, where photographs spanning generations of both families became a key part of the décor. Amit’s choice of Swaraag brought qawwali, folk and contemporary music to the evening. The highlight came when he surprised Purti by joining the band on stage to sing for her.

Wedding Ceremony
The ceremony took place at the Radha Krishna Temple in the fort’s original heritage wing. Located within the 13th-century Zenana Mahal, the temple’s historic architecture and spiritual setting were intentionally left largely untouched. Sitar, tabla and flute accompanied the rituals. The couple replaced kanyadaan with kanyamaan to emphasise mutual respect and partnership, while Purti chose not to have a vidaai, keeping the focus on the coming together of two lives.

Reception
The reception transformed the fort’s great lawn into a New York-inspired black-tie dinner within a Rajasthani heritage setting. Family photographs continued across the tables and courtyards, while repurposed florals kept the décor aligned with the couple’s conscious approach.
After heartfelt speeches and their first dance, guests enjoyed lobster grilled to order and laal maas, affectionately called ‘Granny’s Lamb Stew’. Sliders, milkshakes and brownies carried the celebration into the after-party.

Advice For Couples
For Purti and Amit, the biggest takeaway was to focus on joy, meaning and being present. As they put it, “Focus on what brings you joy and meaning, and don’t get caught up in what a wedding is supposed to look like.”
Their celebrations reflected that approach, from replacing kanyadaan with kanyamaan and choosing not to have a vidaai, to incorporating family photographs, local artisan experiences and Indian-Mexican menus. “Your wedding should feel like you,” the couple shares. “The traditions, the food, the music and the details should reflect your story and the people you are celebrating with.”
