Veena and Prevind, Penang, Malaysia
This minimalistic South Indian garden wedding was a feast for the eyes with its refreshing simplicity.
A traditional South Indian garden wedding that ticked all the boxes when it came to elegance, Veena Anansha and Prevind J’s nuptials were a treat for the eyes. Hosted on the lush landscape of Pahang in Malaysia and photographed by WeddingSutra Favorite – Tuhina Chopra Photoworks who used their expertise to capture every moment in stunning frames, this wedding was a perfect blend of traditional and new-age elements.
How They Met
Veena shares, “We first met in 2008 and have been together for the past 12 years. Introduced by a mutual friend, both of us used to study at the same university. And, slowly from the first meeting itself, we got curious about each other and as time flew by, our friendship blossomed into love. Everything fell into place very naturally, and honestly, we both didn’t even realize when our friendship transitioned into love. We’ve stood by each other through thick and thin in this epic journey that has also led us to create a planning and styling company together.”
Wedding Planning
Being professional planners themselves, the duo took charge of the reins when it came to planning their nuptials. On the photography front, however, they chose Tuhina Chopra Photoworks who impressed the couple with their skill and dedication. Expressing their happiness over the photography team’s work, Veena shares, “From the moment we came across Tuhina Chopra Photoworks on Instagram, we knew that they were going to be a part of our wedding. The team was extremely efficient and we were amazed by the way we instantly connected. During the day, the team, including Tuhina were almost invisible as they effortlessly merged amongst the guests and captured so many precious moments. Also, even though the rain did make a guest appearance, everything went smoothly without a hitch. Not once did their dedication waiver throughout the festivities, which can be seen in their shots. We’re over the moon about the pictures and are extremely happy that we chose Tuhina Chopra Photoworks for our wedding!”
Adding to the team were, videographers Black Magic Creations, along with DJ Knight and The Wackey Emcees keeping the entertainment level high.
Weddings Functions
Nalangu
“With only 200 guests in attendance, it was a close-knit South Indian wedding which started off with a Nalangu ceremony which is basically a Haldi ceremony. Both of us had our Haldi separately with Prevind having his in the morning and mine in the noon.” shares Veena.
Holi
“In the evening following the Haldi, all of us cheerfully played Holi along with some other games. It was a fantastic way to unwind right before the wedding!”
Mehendi
“The following night was Mehendi night where we danced our hearts out till the wee hours of the morning and exchanged friendly banter!”, shares the bride.
Wedding and Reception
“On the wedding day, it started pouring and both of us were rather disappointed assuming that this would put our dream of an outdoor wedding to an end. However, by afternoon, right before the wedding was supposed to start, the rain ceased and the garden was fresh!
Prevind entered the mandap walking gently over the soft soil, and as he sat down, sunlight shone down upon him and we just knew that the weather wouldn’t turn again!
All our family and friends were very supportive throughout the process and ensured that we did not have to worry about anything. Later, after the wedding, we held a cozy yet glamorous reception party where DJ Knight kept everyone in high spirits throughout the night!”
Advice for Couples
“Having a professional wedding planner on the team is an absolute essential. Yes, it’ll cost you extra but it’ll give you plenty of peace and extra time. A planner with prior experience knows the right from wrong, and will guide you through a maze of decisions. Besides, a wedding is a once in a lifetime occasion that deserves extra attention.
Furthermore, we’d also suggest that one always remembers to enjoy themselves throughout the process. Don’t be bogged down by the stress and millions of things that you need to check off your list. Instead, just enjoy each moment as it comes.”, the duo advises.
