Akshera and Rohith, Hyatt Regency, Mumbai
Akshera and Rohith's wedding functions had decor elements inspired by their two cultures, outfit colors, and Kanye West.
From Dubai to Germany and Sydney, Akshera Rai and Rohith Sankabattula’s love story unfolded across continents. Their long-distance relationship moved into a new phase when the duo tied the knot in Mumbai, India. Weddingsutra Favorite Movie’ing Moments captured all the emotions and action of the celebrations in stunning pictures. Bride Akshera shares some highlights of the festivities and wedding planning process here.
How They Met
“Rohith and I met through a common friend in Dubai. We met again on his birthday and I was quite impressed with his dancing skills at the party. I told this to a common friend, who tried to convince us to go out with each other. However, Rohith and I decided to take it slow. We started spending time together and realized that we liked each other. A few months later, I headed back to Sydney for my next semester, and Rohith went to Germany to complete his Masters. Over time, we found out that we couldn’t go a few days without talking to each other and that was the beginning of our long-distance love story.”
Wedding Planning
“Since my family is from Mumbai, we decided to host the wedding there, and we started looking for suitable venues. Rohith wanted a venue with a classy ambiance, and I was keen on a beautiful outdoor space. My dad was apprehensive about outdoor venues as it had rained in Mumbai around the same time the previous year. After checking out many places, we came across a banquet hall at the Hyatt Regency hotel which was perfect for us. The hall had impressive interiors and a grand ceiling, but the icing on the cake was the courtyard which had a glass ceiling above and included a beautiful garden. That was the spot where we erected our mandap, and I have to say it was the most stunning mandap ever!”
Wedding Functions
Mehndi
“Since my outfit was a rani pink lehenga with lotus motifs on the border and a mint green dupatta, we decided to go with pink, green and yellow for the mehndi setup and informed our decorator accordingly. We wanted the space to look as colorful as possible, so a cheery bridal corner was set up with vibrant drapes and dream catchers hanging in the background.”
Sangeet
The sangeet ceremony was a fun-filled affair, where the couple’s family and friends danced their hearts out and enjoyed every minute as they celebrated Akshera and Rohith’s union. One eye-catching element of the sangeet decor was the floral ceiling right above the stage.
Wedding
“Since my roots are from Mangalore and my husband is from Visakhapatnam, our wedding ceremony was a mix of the rituals and styles from both these regions. We planned things in such a way that our wedding decor complemented both cultures and included authentic elements from South India.”
Reception
“For the reception, I asked the decorator to recreate a wall pasted with flowers similar to the one that Kanye West had done for Kim Kardashian at their wedding. That is exactly what we got! Our floral wall was larger and more impressive than what we had expected!”
Advice For Couples
“During the preparations, always remember, that the point of it all is your marriage to each other, and at the end of the day, that’s what matters the most. Remember to keep this mind when you have disagreements during the planning process as a few are bound to happen.”
