Vibrant with touches of regal Maratha culture, Anuradha and Gaurav's wedding in the lush environs of Panvel was all about keeping traditions alive
Anuradha and Gaurav studied in the same school, but Cupid played its part years later when they met up again for a school get-together. Here, bride Anuradha shares her special memories of their wedding celebrations.
How We Met
“It all started when we met at our school reunion. It’s funny that despite being from the same school, Gaurav and I hadn’t interacted with each other until 2014 when he sent me a friend request on Facebook. After that, we would chat once in a while, but little did we know that it was the start of something special. I was working as an aircrew in Abu Dhabi and he was settled in Mumbai. When our school planned the reunion, I flew down to Mumbai, and much to his surprise gave him a call. We decided to meet at the get-together where things went really well. I was a little shy and nervous so he did his best to make me comfortable by being chatty and friendly. The third time we met, everything just fell into place and we knew we were meant to be together. Being with each other was so easy and there was such a strong sense of positivity and happiness between us, it was evident that this was it.”
Proposal
“Gaurav’s proposal to me was probably one of the best planned surprises ever. He had spoken to his parents about us, and planned a surprise party for my 25th birthday, where he went down on one knee and popped the question!”
Wedding Venue
“We always wanted a very religious wedding ceremony and planned everything according to an authentic Maharashtrian theme. We chose to host the wedding and reception outdoors at the Aayush Resort in Panvel, and the Maratha ambiance was rich with vibrant colors.”
Wedding Functions
Mehndi
“The guest list for my mehndi was limited to close family and friends. I wanted the mood for this function to be very easy so that everyone could relax and enjoy themselves.”
Haldi
“The haldi was a very intimate affair. We had a small ceremony in the morning. This was followed by a DJ Night in the evening which was a hit with all the guests. Practically everyone let their hair down and danced away to the tunes of DJ Krish Hart.”
Wedding
“Inspired by the glorious Maharashtrian heritage, our wedding followed a Maratha theme. Bright yellow, royal blue and soothing white dominated the décor at our colorful function. Our wedding planners, Purple Chariot Weddings, made use of elements like lamps and bells to add to the majestic charm of the setup. The mandap was resplendent with floral garlands suspended from its roof. Gaurav wore an off-white Peshwa outfit with a green velvet shawl that complimented my traditional green ‘nauvari’ (traditional Maharashtrian saree) saree which I paired with stunning gold jewellery. Kajol R Paswwan did a wonderful job by giving me a dewy glow that lasted through the event. Our memories were captured by Picture Together. I couldn’t have asked for anything better.”
