Drashti and Anuj, Mumbai
Sidestepping conventions, this eco-conscious couple hosted a small, sustainable wedding at Soho House, Mumbai.
Chartered Accountants by profession, Drashti Thakrar, and Anuj Gangawal’s close-knit nuptials were environmentally conscious and yet extremely elegant and joyous. Eschewing traditional rituals, this couple chose to take the registered marriage route followed by a hearty dinner party. Photographing them as they embarked on this new adventure was WeddingSutra Favorite – The Blemished Tales, who with each click accurately captured the unfiltered happiness of the occasion.
How They Met
Drashti shares, “We met about a decade ago while interning in Mumbai and felt an instant connection. A few months later, we became close friends and that was perhaps the first time in my life that either one of us had gotten so close to another in no time! Furthermore, both of us had the exact career track record which was a common point. But as time flew by and we got to understand each other better, we realized that we are polar opposites! So while our similarities may have gotten us together, it is our differences that help us grow stronger!”
Wedding Planning
Drashti shares, “Both of us have always preferred the idea of a small sustainable wedding and wanted to execute the same with our family and friends. So when we made a decision to skip the rituals to orchestrate a registered marriage, we knew that we wanted a cozy space. Our venue of choice with its picturesque views of the sea and homely interiors was absolutely perfect! We planned the wedding in less than 15 days, and thankfully it was a smooth journey as we both were on the same page.”
Capturing each moment of their happy union was The Blemished Tales who impressed the couple with their dedication. Drashti says, “The Blemished Tales were an absolute dream to work with! They exuded a cheerful energy throughout the wedding. Moreover, to our delight they even sent us a few preview pictures right after the wedding, and seeing Anuj’s joy at viewing them made everything worth it! I have probably seen that first batch at least a million times and I still love them just as much. The Blemished Tales were calm, accommodating, patient and simply wonderful to work with. It was almost like having good friends around!”

Wedding
Choosing simplicity over grandeur, Drashti and Anuj’s wedding was an eco-friendly affair brimming with heartfelt moments. With a picturesque view of the gentle sea waves, their wedding took place at a plush club located in Juhu which is a posh, well-connected neighborhood in Mumbai. Drashti recollects, “Anuj and me wanted the same thing, a simple, no-fuss celebration! Hence, we just had a small dinner party where our guests could truly enjoy the evening. Both of us are passionate about climate change (we also work in the sustainability space) and the one thing we wanted from our wedding was for it to be waste-free. The décor was dominated by potted plants which were eventually given out to guests as post-wedding gifts, and everything else was either reused or recycled. An added bonus was hosting it at Soho House, because they are a plastic-free venue which was the cherry on top!”
