How they met
Living outside India for most of his life, Sachin met Gauri during one of his trips to Delhi to visit his family. Gauri, who grew up in Delhi, met him through her sister who was friends with his cousin, and the two instantly hit it off. Over a decade, the two maintained a strong friendship over texts and calls, growing ever closer when the very people who introduced them got married to each other. It was however during the Pandemic in 2020 that they accepted the depth of their bond and started to date. Their love blossomed over phone calls, video chats, and occasional holidays, and soon they decided to take their relationship to the next level.
The Proposal
With a long-distance relationship, meeting during the Pandemic was no easy feat. With limited travel options available to Gauri from India, the two chose Russia as a meeting place and she traveled to Moscow, but as fate would have it, Sachin got stopped due to last-minute restrictions. Unwilling to quit, the two rallied and booked a last-minute trip to the Maldives, where on the very first day Sachin decided to wait no longer and popped the question with an intimate proposal and private dinner on the beach.
Wedding Venue
Gauri shares, “Sachin and I were very certain that we wanted an intimate wedding of 100 people, ideally on a beach, so we decided to only look for a boutique venue that would be a destination getaway for us and our families. The Palayana Hua Hin was the best choice we could have made. The location, the food, and most importantly the manager, Sumeet, and his team, were all par excellence. Nothing was impossible for them, and they went out of their way not only on the days of the function but also during the planning process when my family visited the venue. The rooms were gorgeous and the food was so good that our guests still talk about it. They gave us our dream beach wedding.”
Wedding Planning
Entrusting the team of Pink Palki to orchestrate the wedding, the couple chose Anoop. Studio by Niramit Creations to capture their moments. Talking about their experience, they share, “Sharan, Ruchica, and Raveena of Pink Palki were incredible to work with and went out of their way to make our vision come true. The entire styling and decor were crafted around my lehenga which was designed by my dad, and they beautifully executed the concepts.
Anoop and his team were a chilled-out, happy bunch of people, and made everyone around them comfortable and at home, which allowed them to capture the sweetest moments of the wedding. They were also very patient with any change in our plans and requirements and took the time to understand all that we wanted.”
Wedding Functions
Welcome Lunch and Mehndi
Following some pre-wedding celebrations in Delhi, the celebrations in Thailand were kickstarted with lunch to welcome the guests. The bride’s mehndi ceremony took place as everyone relaxed, mingled, and geared up for the upcoming revelries. The evening continued with a sundowner party by the beach. A surprise, heartfelt speech by the bride’s sister and brother-in-law, was followed by melodious mixes of Dj Ashwini and a delectable dinner of Thai and Indian fusion cuisine.
Haldi and Choora ceremony
The next day began with an intimate Haldi ceremony for the bride and groom. Flowing drapes and aesthetic arrangements of marigolds set a traditional tone with a minimalist ethos for the occasion. The bride and groom sat in large urlis as their loved ones anointed them with haldi and love.
The haldi was followed by the bride’s choora ceremony after which they spent the day with some pool fun before getting ready for the evening nuptials.
Wedding
Hosted by the beach, the wedding was imagined with the earthy, elegant decor of white blooms, foliage, lamps, fairy lights, and more, that delicately elevated the natural beauty of the tropical venue. The structural mandap made of exotic blooms and leaves looked striking against the rolling waves and striking sunset sky. The groom arrived with a rousing baraat, after which the bride left everyone awestruck as she arrived with her family under a beautiful phoolon ki chadar. Designed entirely by her father, her stunning wedding lehenga of red and royal blue was a retelling of Lord Shiva and Parvati’s love story, a nod to the bride’s name. A total surprise for the bride, the outfit not only was an emotional gift but also inspired and connected all of the decor concepts, making for an unforgettable experience. The couple tied the knot to the symphony of the waves beyond, after which they celebrated with a sangeet, dances, dinner, and an after-party.
