Haina and Bipin at Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai
In our new series- ‘Featured Weddings’ we’ll be regularly sharing photos of weddings held at the finest venues in different cities. And to start this series, we’re featuring an amazing celebration that took place at one of our favorites wedding venues– the Taj Mahal Palace whose history is dramatically intertwined with our city Mumbai. The hotel is Mumbai’s first harbour landmark (built 21 years before the Gateway of India) and when it opened, the hotel boasted a series of firsts: American fans, German elevators, Turkish baths and English butlers. The building was also the first in Mumbai to be lit by electricity. Eventually it also ended up having the city’s first licensed bar, India’s first all-day dining restaurant, and the country’s first international discotheque, Blow Up.
So when Photographer Monica Moghe shared photos from a wedding (Haina and Bipin) she shot at the Taj, as it is simply called in Mumbai we knew we had to feature the wedding really soon. While we loved all the photos of the beautiful couple and their rich celebrations, the ones that are our favorites are those shot in the suites- perfect blend of old-world elegance and modern convenience, and the grand stairway and corridors than stand testimony to a century old heritage, with art and artifacts gracing the aisles.
Haina and Bipin have known each other since years, their wedding was held as per Sindhi traditions, and their celebrations reflected their and their families cultural interests with the right dash of modernism. The theme for the Mehndi was bright yellow marigolds and fresh green & fuchsia, and the couple and their loves ones danced to traditional Sindhi tunes sung by a band. The decor theme for the Engagement was modern with crystals and pink lighting. Haina wore a magnificent Gauri & Nainika gown, while Bipin looked dapper in a black tuxedo. The night entailed lots of dancing and fiesta.
For the wedding, Haina wore a red lehenga and beaded pink Trishuli pumps, and Bipin wore a cream sherwani. As Monica quips: “This was the coming together of two young souls whose love has seen the test of distance and time, at a venue that is all about traditional charm, global appeal and timeless style. Truly a wedding to remember.”
