Harustat and Rustam, Sydney
This couple’s ‘Punjabi folk’ themed sangeet celebrated the richness of true Punjabi culture with its colorful and rustic decor.
A harmless follow on Instagram led Rustam and Harustat on a journey of a lifetime. Seeing Harustat’s profile, Rustam was instantly smitten and he knew she would be the perfect girl for him. After spending some quality time together, the duo quickly realized that ‘this was it’ and decided to take the plunge in a series of impressive ceremonies that celebrated their vivid culture.
How They Met
The couple first exchanged a harmless follow on Instagram which then led to conversations about Harustat’s dog, Rex, a topic that spurred on other conversations too. These casual conversations finally bore fruit when the duo realized the chemistry between them which led to Rustam boarding a flight to Adelaide to meet the girl of his dreams.
With butterflies in their belly and goosebumps, Rustam and Harustat approached each other in person for the first time. Making most of their moments together, they spent plenty of quality time with one another, and Rustam also acquainted himself with Harustat’s family. Finally, the couple knew that they’d found ‘the one’. From then on, there was no looking back.
Wedding Venue
Following the time-honored tradition, the couple got hitched in Gurdwara Sahib Glenwood, a magnificent Gurudwara where the couple took their vows in front of the Almighty surrounded by their family and friends. For the pre-wedding ceremonies, they chose the spacious Garden Ball Room at Oatlands House, Navarra for the engagement and the posh Lemnos Club by Clarence for the sangeet.
Wedding Planning
To orchestrate their grand wedding, the couple relied on a stellar team comprising of the most popular names in the industry. No stone was left unturned by them to ensure that Harustat and Rustam’s vision came to life. On the decor front, Anna Wang took charge of the florals while Shagun Events made sure the Indian decorations reflected the couple’s desi style. Makeup artist Sana worked her magic on Harustat to make sure she looked stunning in each shot. Rolling Canvas Presentations used their incredible skill behind the lens to capture some truly expressive shots.
Weddings Functions
Engagement
Following the theme ‘garden fairytale’ that echoed with the lush foliage of the venue, the engagement ceremony exuded dreamy vibes. Surrounded by vibrant flowers and basking in the love of their family Harustat and Rustam slipped a ring on each other’s fingers to seal the deal.
Reflecting the floral decor, the bride looked stunning in a dusty rose lehenga with floral motifs while the groom donned a luxurious merlot hued velvet sherwani with a classic paisley print shawl.
Sangeet
For the sangeet, the couple decided to show off their Punjabi roots and opted for a ‘Punjabi Folk’ theme. Filled to the brim with florals and rustic elements the decor gave the guests a flavor of rural Punjab while awing them with a ceiling packed with red blooms.
Keeping the vibrant surroundings in mind, Harustat chose a bright blue gharara while Rustam complemented his bride in a blue and white kurta and bandhgala set.
Anand Karaj
The solemn Anand Karaj ceremony followed a minimalistic decor. However, the theme ‘Sikh Royal’ was mirrored in the couple’s outfits. As Rustam made a smashing entry with his boisterous bhangra dancing amidst his baaratis, he was flanked by his best buds who wore matching pale blue sherwanis paired with peach turbans. The bride too wasn’t far behind as she made her entry following her bridesmaids who donned matching peach salwar suits for the occasion.
The bride herself was a showstopper in her gold and off white lehenga which she paired with a bright orange dupatta to add a pop of color. Rustam channeled his inner royal with a bright blue and gold sherwani which he accessorized with multiple pearl and kundan necklaces.

The couple shares, “Take everything one step at a time, and just remember that a few things may not work the way you’d imagined, but that’s completely okay. Nothing compares to the magical memories of the big day.”
