Set against the misty hills of Dehradun, Karishma Lakhwani and Bhrat Daswani’s wedding unfolded as an intimate mountain celebration hosted at the breathtaking Taj Mussoorie Foothills, Dehradun. Surrounded by rolling greens and a sense of quiet grandeur, the venue became the perfect canvas for a wedding that felt expansive yet deeply rooted in warmth. How They Met
“Love has a funny way of finding you when you are not looking for it, but when the timing finally feels right,” shares Karishma. Bhrat, based in London, carried a calm presence that balanced Karishma’s vibrant, Dubai-bred energy. Despite having lived in the same city for years, their paths never crossed. Not at a café, not at a gathering, not even at a Sindhi event, which Karishma jokes was nearly impossible. It was clear the universe had its own plans. It was only in early 2024, through a simple online message, that everything changed. “I replied a little late, very on brand,” Karishma smiles. “But once we started talking, something just clicked.”

The Proposal
A few months later, Bhrat flew to Dubai, and their connection stepped into real life. Six months on, a shared journey to Turkey turned into a moment frozen in time. Amid the magical skies of Cappadocia, surrounded by floating hot air balloons, he asked Karishma to be his forever. “It felt unreal,” she recalls. “Like the world paused just for us.”

Wedding Venue
After much planning and multiple spreadsheets, the couple celebrated their union at Taj Mussoorie Foothills in Dehradun. Nestled amidst the mountains, the venue offered a seamless blend of natural beauty and understated luxury. “The moment we saw the property, we knew this was where we wanted to get married,” says Karishma. “The calm, the greenery, and the mountains made everything feel intimate yet grand. It allowed us to celebrate with our loved ones while staying connected to nature, which meant everything to us.”

Wedding Planning
Working with Knotty Affair by Namit and Vipul turned out to be one of the most effortless and joyful parts of Karishma and Bhrat’s wedding journey. Beyond being their photographers, the duo became a reassuring presence throughout the celebrations. “As a bride, there are so many moving pieces and moments where things can feel overwhelming,” Karishma shares. “But from the very first click to the last shot, they made everything feel easy.”

She laughs as she recalls repeatedly telling them that they needed to stop shooting and rush to the next event, only for them to respond with humour and calm. “I kept worrying if we had missed something, a candid moment, a dreamy lehenga shot. They always reassured us and somehow made even the chaos feel fun. It genuinely felt like working with old friends who understood us, our energy, and our excitement. Every frame reflects exactly how the wedding felt!”

Wedding Functions
Welcome Dinner & Laddas
The celebrations commenced with a warm and heartfelt welcome rooted in Sindhi traditions. The setting embraced an understated palette of soft neutrals, ambient lighting, and classic accents that expressed comfort.

Janeu Pooja
Sacred and intimate in spirit, the Janeu Pooja (the sacred Brahmin thread ceremony for men) unfolded in a serene setting where rituals and blessings took centre stage. Minimal décor, subtle florals, and a calm neutral palette complemented the sanctity of the ceremony, creating a space that felt grounded, reverent, and deeply meaningful.

Mehndi Carnival
Bursting with colour and carefree energy, the Mehndi Carnival was hosted poolside in a setting designed purely for fun. Playful pastel hues, cheerful floral arrangements, and interactive décor elements brought a lively, carnival-like vibrance to the afternoon. “This was the day we truly let loose,” shares Karishma.

Sangeet Night and Neon After Party
The Sangeet Night unfolded in a glamorous setting layered with warm lighting, statement décor elements, and a refined colour palette that set the stage for spirited performances and heartfelt dances. As the evening transitioned into the neon after party, glowing accents, bold colours, and ambient lighting transformed the space into a dynamic dance floor that carried the celebrations late into the night.

Wedding
The wedding ceremony was envisioned as an extension of the surrounding mountains, bringing the outdoors indoors through a thoughtfully curated décor narrative. Soft florals, lush greenery, and an ethereal colour palette framed the mandap, creating a setting that felt organic and timeless. As gentle rain joined the ceremony, it added an unplanned yet scenic layer to the moment. “It felt like nature was blessing us,” Karishma reflects.

Reception
Relaxed and celebratory, the reception embraced a spirited mood where formality took a back seat. With music and dancing filling the space, the couple chose to celebrate freely, closing their wedding festivities on a joyful high.

Advice For Couples
Reflecting on the journey, Karishma shares, “Start planning at least a year because it really helps ease the pressure, although some last-minute chaos is always part of the process. On your wedding day, try to forget everything else and just enjoy because these moments come once in a lifetime. Having a trusted team of people around you to handle last-minute issues makes a huge difference. And most importantly, read every agreement carefully and clarify everything in advance. Even with all our planning, we faced surprises, so that extra effort is always worth it.”
