Komal and Akshay Mohan, W Goa
This couple’s unconventional seaside mandap design is a stunning example of nature meeting contemporary design concepts.
Unconventional design elements, themes and impeccable hospitality were the hallmarks of Komal and Akshay Mohan’s wedding in Goa. A creative endeavour where seamless planning was of utmost priority, this union was orchestrated by WeddingSutra Favorite – Shreem Events. Designing the wedding while staying in tandem with the bride’s vision was WeddingSutra Favorite – Castle Rock Events.
Wedding Planning
Devanshi from Shreem Events shares, “The bride, Komal is very creative. Collaborating with her was such a pleasure. Komal was involved in every part of the wedding, from decor to collaterals. The gifts were also designed by the bride’s company. Since we had a bride who was so creatively skewed, everything just had to be perfect and we were on our toes throughout the celebrations. The celebrations in Goa were hosted in the first week of December. Apart from the primary property, multiple hotels around the vicinity were also used to host guests and wedding vendors.”
Wedding Functions
Welcome and Mehndi
The celebrations commenced with a welcome party and a mehndi event that was hosted later in the day. For the travel-worn guests, the welcome party was a refreshing one with a Kolkata chaiwala stall, customised coconut water and dholwalas that greeted them at the entry. A chaat counter offered light yet lip-smacking snacks while the guests waited to be checked in.
Later in the day, the mehndi witnessed the couple making a stylish entry with color bombs being held aloft to welcome them, a flash mob comprised of their loved ones and of course, in pure desi style, energetic dhowalas playing groovy beats. The poolside mehndi was adorned by pop-inspired contemporary decor, a snooker table where guests gathered to talk and play, a live drummer, a ball pit and vases bursting with bright blooms. The celebrations were followed by lunch and high tea. Plus, the guests were indulged with unique mehndi favors that included scarves and pocket squares.
Sangeet
The sundowner sangeet was a glamorous one hosted at the Seaview lawns. The guests were treated to a view of a starlit night sky, a colossal stage and gold fairylights that were suspended over the seating area. Fog and bubbles gave the couple a mysterious entry while a photobooth ensured the guests took plenty of polaroids home. The night transitioned into a groovy after-party after a set of high-octane family dance performances.
Haldi
Devanshi shares, “The haldi followed a ‘Meena Bazaar’ theme. The venue was a garden-based one and once the guests entered, they were greeted by a sun-dappled lawn surrounded by blooms and a variety of stalls. Since the bride’s family is into export and import of gifting items, there were special gifting counters that offered personalised bags, clutches, diaries and much more.
Komal made her haldi entry under a phoolon ki chaadar as she wasn’t keen on doing the same on her big day.”
Wedding
Devanshi shares, “The wedding mandap for the sunset pheras was an unconventional one. Rather than going for the usual four-pillared mandap, the couple opted for a mandap backed by the gentle sea, a white-trunked tree with a floor covered by faux grass. The aisle that led to the mandap was pristine white and lined by dainty blooms. Komal walked down the aisle with handpicked songs playing in the background and a special voiceover message for Akshay. Live classical musicians added a dash of musical magic to their varmala moment which also included a flower shower.
After the pheras, the reception was hosted with a live band and everyone toasted to the couple’s good health.”
