Misha and Viraj, JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu
From dancing for hours on Bollywood numbers to hiding the groom's shoes, Viraj and Misha's wedding in Mumbai was full of highpoints that made for amazing memories
Viraj and Misha made sure that fun was the overall theme of their #Miraj2017 wedding, right from their themed brunch where guests danced for hours to their elegant reception where they waltzed in each other’s arms. Here, Misha recalls some interesting moments of her nuptials.
How We Met
“Viraj and I were introduced to each other through a friend when we were in the US, and that’s how we first got talking. We were initially attracted to each other’s personalities as both of us are completely opposite in nature. We had several ‘first dates’, followed by a trip to India and a proposal which sealed the deal, and led to our wedding!”
Wedding Functions
Brunch
“Our first event was a brunch with a #CowboyRidesToTheBigApple theme and we had quirky signs, bales of hay and wooden crates to create the rugged ambiance. The men came dressed in plaids, while the ladies wore chic outfits. I wore a pink gown and Viraj looked every inch a cowboy in his cowboy hat, jeans and checkered shirt We kicked off with a party for youngsters where there was lots of food, a custom drinks menu and cheery guests shaking a leg to hit tracks. The event started out with a ‘Meet & Greet’ session where we welcomed our friends and then quickly joined them on the dance floor. We all jammed on Bollywood songs, and Viraj was the centre of attraction! Six hours quickly flew by, but we could have continued burning up the dance floor.”
Wedding
“After a couple of religious rituals and ceremonies at home, our wedding festivities began. Viraj and his entourage made their entry dancing to the infectious beats of the ‘dhol’ (traditional drum). The elegant and sophisticated floral decor was done by National Decorators and truly complemented our aesthetic tastes. After the pheras, we even had a fun game where my side of the family hid Viraj’s shoes and asked his family to find it. The stealing of the ‘mojris’ (ethnic shoes) and bargaining of money for them were one of the most fun moments of the entire wedding. I am quite minimalistic when it comes to my fashion and beauty tastes, so I wore an embellished blush gold lehenga which I paired with gorgeous jewellery from Coral Jewels. Viraj wore a white sherwani with a majestic red ‘safa’ (turban). My bridal look was kept natural for which I cannot thank my makeup artist, Mridula Thombre enough as she made me look absolutely stunning!”
Reception
“The reception commenced with our entrance as ‘Mr and Mrs Mehta’ for the first time. We waltzed to the tune of ‘I’m Yours’ by Jason Mraz, and spent the next couple of hours greeting and meeting all our wonderful guests who had come to bless us. I wanted to look stylish yet be comfortable for this event so I wore a powder blue cocktail gown and minimal jewellery which perfectly matched Viraj’s blue tuxedo with black lapels and bow tie.”
