Monisha and Nikhil, Thailand
The couple’s desi wedding in Thailand was a wonderful mélange of tradition, sophistication and a whole lot of fun.
Planned to perfection by WeddingSutra Favorite- Shanaya Celebrations, Monisha and Nikhil’s opulent wedding in Thailand commemorated a love that began aboard an ocean liner. Stunning decor, fabulous venues and sublime cuisine this wedding had it all. Onboard was WeddingSutra Favorite – DJ Ash behind the console who ensured the dance floor was always buzzing at every event he was at, making this a wonderful wedding indeed.
The bride tells us all about her celebrations.
How We Met
“Our story began in June 2017, somewhere in the middle of the Indian Ocean! On a seven-night cruise, aboard a luxury liner called the Voyager of the Seas, amongst 3,840 passengers, we managed to find each other. Every night, formal suppers were hosted and families were assigned fixed seating. Nikhil first spotted me then. After four nights of eye contact, he finally mustered up the courage to speak to me.”
The Proposal
A year later, after innumerable trips back and forth to each other’s hometowns, Nikhil decided to seal the deal. He flew down to Panama to celebrate his 30th birthday with Monisha. Once there, he asked her parents for her hand in marriage and a couple of days into the trip, proposed to her, at a rooftop restaurant, amidst roses, pictures and candles. A fancy dinner and champagne just for two followed.
The Wedding Venue
“We got married at the Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park in Thailand. The hotel is in the heart of the city and was very convenient for guests who stayed in Bangkok. The hotel’s variety of venues meant we could host different events in different ballrooms. And of course, the culinary diversity was impressive – they serve Indian, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, and Lebanese cuisine. Our guests enjoyed eating at the live stations set up by the hotel.”
Wedding Functions
Welcome Dinner
Relaxed, laid-back and intimate, the welcome dinner for friends and family at Rang Mahal, an Indian rooftop restaurant in Bangkok was the perfect start to the celebrations.
Ring Ceremony and Mehendi
The couple hosted a romantic soirée aboard the Grand Chaophraya Cruise and conducted the ring ceremony and Monisha’s mehendi party on the iconic river. Dressed in shades of blue, guests had a wonderful time celebrating Monisha and Nikhil’s engagement and getting their hands inked with henna. DJ Ash entertained the guests with his thrilling beats and the wedding brigade danced the night away.
Sangeet
The theme was ‘Let’s Fiesta like there’s no Manana’! The sangeet unfolded at the Thai Chitlada Grand Ballroom of the Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park. Dressed in their finest traditional Indian attire, everyone lived the theme and partied like there was no tomorrow. DJ Ash was at the console again, enthralling guests with his fantastic music.
Wedding
Monisha and Nikhil were wed in a traditional Indian ceremony hosted at The Great Hall of the same hotel. In a beautiful multi-colored sleeveless bridal lehenga by Bharti & Ashna, Monisha looked every bit the radiant Indian bride.
Reception
A formal, black-tie soirée, the couple’s reception was hosted at the Thai Chitlada Grand Ballroom of the hotel. While the evening was a wonderful conclusion to the festivities and ceremonies, DJ Ash turned it into a fabulous climax with his intuitive playlist.
Advice for couples
The couple suggests starting your wedding planning at least eight months in advance. They also believe in trusting your wedding planners and leaving all the worrying to them. And of course, most importantly, cherish every moment, not just the D-Day, but also the days leading up to it.
