Nikita and Siddarth, Sheraton Grand Chennai
A two-day celebration that saw blessings coming together in Tamil and Gujarati, beside the Bay of Bengal.
Under the warm Chennai sun, two worlds came together: a Tamil Brahmin groom and a Gujarati bride, both born Indian but brought up and rooted in Chicago. Nikita and Siddarth’s wedding was a celebration spanning two days in which traditions mingled in a blend of color, song, and laughter. Every detail spoke of luxury and warmth, thanks to the precision planning by WeddingSutra Favorite – Oh Yes Events.
Wedding Planning
Nikita and Siddarth dreamt of a wedding that was understated yet majestic, intimate yet expansive, and above all, a beautiful representation of their two cultures. “We knew what we wanted, down to the smallest detail,” says Nikita, recalling late-night planning calls across different time zones with the team from Oh Yes Events. “From the color green of the table runners to the positioning of the candles, we wanted it to be perfect.”
The couple chose Sheraton Grand Chennai for its oceanfront lawns, breezy architecture, and subtle luxury. The property was taken over for two days, turning into a private oasis for more than 200 guests, most of whom had traveled in from overseas.
The focus on guest experience was high with the couple wanting them to feel like they were part of something extraordinary from the moment they entered. Guests were received at the airport, and treated to curated local sightseeing tours to experience Chennai’s culture and coastal charm.
About the décor, Saravanan Saran of Oh Yes Events, says, “The couple wanted an aesthetic that was minimalist, dreamy, and green! Muted shades of green were the foundation of the color palette—from drapes to floral arrangements—complemented by white flowers, gold accents, and soft candlelight. The highlights of the decor were a flower mandap draped in soft green and white flowers, light installations that cast a warm, golden light over the evenings, and an understated entrance arch that welcomed visitors with a warm greeting. Minimalism is more difficult to achieve than extravagance.”
Wedding Functions
The Haldi Ceremony
The Haldi was a whirlwind of happiness, turmeric smeared with smiles, the background score, and friends playfully taunting the couple in the gentle morning sun. Sandalwood and marigold scents filled the air as the families joined in, making it one of the most intimate experiences of the festivities.
The Wedding Rituals
On their wedding day, Siddarth wore the ceremonial Tamil Brahmin wear: an ivory veshti and an angavastram. Nikita’s Gujarati bridal attire glimmered in reds and golds. The mandap had a view of the sea, upon which priests recited mantras that blended with the rhythmic pounding of waves.
“Hearing Tamil chants and Gujarati blessings within the same ceremony was like music made for us,” Nikita said.
Cocktail Night
If the wedding was quiet and serene, the cocktail party was charged with energy. Guests danced beneath a fairy light canopy, drinks in hand, as the DJ mixed up Bollywood favorites with international numbers. The atmosphere pulsed with joy, from sentimental speeches to unbridled dancing.
