Nivriti and Manhar, Hyatt Regency, Chandigarh
A blend of Bengali, Sikh and Marwari rituals, Nivriti and Manhar's wedding wowed all with its mix of cultures, colors and careful planning.
From law to love… Manhar and Nivriti first met at a party when they were both studying law, and their relationship evolved from friendship into love over time. Their crosscultural wedding incorporated Bengali, Sikh and Marwari traditions. Here, bride Nivriti shares some special memories and highlights of her big day captured by WeddingSutra Favorite Shutterdown.
How We Met
“Manhar and I both studied at the Government Law College in Mumbai, but because he was in his final year when I was in the third, we first met only at a party that I hosted. Looking back, who knew I would meet my soulmate that day! Our journey started off as friends and slowly grew into something special. No, there was no filmy proposal or expectations, our honesty just made us go with the flow of love! Our bond was so strong that even though we come from different cultures, everyone around us was excited for our future.”
Wedding Venue
“After considering the option of destination weddings, we decided to stick to Chandigarh, which is Manhar’s hometown. As for my family, they were all geared up and excited about a destination wedding experience! The Hyatt Regency hotel in Chandigarh stood out as the perfect location for a wedding that we had in mind, and matched all our expectations!”
Wedding Planning, Theme, and Decor
“My wedding with Manhar was a dream come true. Our quirky invitations were made by Customizing Creativity, and while I handled the wedding planning, my imagination was flawlessly brought to life by Rajjas Events, Jaipur. As for the photographers, we trusted Shutterdown to capture our precious moments, and the team did not let us down!”
Wedding Functions
“Keeping in mind our different rituals and traditions, our functions incorporated aspects of our diverse cultures.”
Bhaat
“The ‘Bhaat’ is a function in which the bride’s maternal uncle plays a very important role, and since my mother’s side of the family hails from Kolkata, we chose a Bengali theme for the same.”
Mehndi
“The decor at our mehndi was a panorama of bright colors that brought to life the outdoor section of the Hyatt Regency hotel. It was a day function, I did not want to wear anything heavy or glamorous, so I wore a simple red and white lehenga which I had designed for myself.”
Sangeet
“We tried to personalize the sangeet with a hint of elements that define us, like law, travel, and our childhoods. We had a special entry planned out for the event too with fireworks and flowers. Our walk towards the stage was truly picture perfect. Choosing to color coordinate for all the functions, we both wore royal blue for the sangeet. I chose an Arpita Mehta lehenga, and Manhar picked his outfit from Thapsons, Chandigarh.”
Gurdwara Wedding
“Following the sangeet was our gurdwara wedding. I wanted a simple yet elegant look for it, so I chose a pastel pink lehenga from Devnaagri while Manhar wore a sherwani from Dulha House, Chandigarh.”
Hindu Wedding & Reception
“Our Hindu wedding and reception were held at Hyatt Regency the next day. Going with the traditional concept, we chose a red and orange color theme for the same. Manhar and I sported red outfits, and also coordinated our green jewellery! For me, the best moment of our wedding was taking pheras with the mesmerizing ‘shoklas’ (religious verses) sung with ‘nagada’ (traditional drums) and ‘shankh’ (conch shell) in the background.”
Advice to Couples
“For all those who intend to plan their wedding, free yourself from all the responsibilities at least one month before your big day. For the last month, delegating and de-stressing should be your only to-dos! And for those who intend to choose a wedding planner, select your venues with care, and the rest will automatically follow.”
