Pooja and Sachin, Udaipur

This duo’s dome-shaped golden wedding mandap adorned with pink and white flowers exuded classic desi opulence.

Pooja and Sachin first met in junior college where they both became close friends. However, Sachin who was already smitten by Pooja from the first day itself, was in for a surprise when his attempt to ask her out was soundly rebuffed. But as fate would have it, time flew by and both of them grew closer as they joined the same university and years later, tied the knot in a stunning ceremony hosted in Udaipur surrounded by their loved ones.

How They Met
“Both of us have the same surname in common, Bohra. So, when I first heard about him in junior college, I was curious to know who the other ‘Bohra’ in the class was. Eventually, we met and became a part of the same friends’ group. Sachin, at the time, used to tease me incessantly and play pranks on me, but soon enough, we became fast friends. However, when he asked me to be his girlfriend, I refused, since we were too young, and I wasn’t ready. Thankfully, our friendship survived, and Sachin remained a close friend even as we joined the same university. And, by the second year of university, we started dating!”, recollects Pooja.

The Proposal
“We were vacationing in the Bahamas, and Sachin had a surprise in store for me, as he had bought a ring from one of the cruise gift shops. He popped the question to me on the scenic beach at Nassau, Atlantis Palm beach, and I was completely floored! The whole scenario looked straight out of a movie. Although, Sachin graciously accepted an uncertain answer from me as we’d only been dating a few months. He duly said that he would wait till I was ready, and that he knew I was ‘the one’ ever since he saw me on the first day of college. The whole scenario was a dream come true!”, shares Pooja.

Wedding Venue
“From the moment we got engaged, we knew that we wanted to have a destination wedding. Soon, we started scouting for venues near Bangalore when one of our acquaintances mentioned the Ananta Udaipur Hotels & Resorts. Fortunately, at that time, we were in Rajasthan attending a wedding hosted at the very same venue and were totally blown away by it! The layout was perfect, as it only had villas instead of rooms, and the suites had their own private swimming pools. The warm hospitality coupled with the luxurious design completely matched our vision. Adding the cherry on top was the venue’s tie-up with Silver Craft Events & Apsara Tent House whose work impressed us from the first glance itself.”, shared Pooja.

Wedding Planning
To ensure their dreams of a fairytale wedding bore fruit, the duo roped in reliable and efficient vendors to be a part of their dream team. The couple chose Silver Craft Events & Apsara Tent House for their wedding planning and Photographers Pixel Story, and wedding film experts Amal Roy Films, to capture their precious moments. Makeup artist Tanvi Marathe worked her magic on the bride to highlight her natural beauty whilst hairstylist Mehvish Majithia gave Pooja gorgeous hairdos. Taking full advantage of the digital medium the couple also roped in Gaurav Bafna who designed a unique animated video invite that delighted the invitees.

Weddings Functions

Mehndi/Pool Party
“Our ‘flamingo’ themed mehndi/pool party was full of fun and entertainment as everyone danced to Bollywood songs for hours and eventually, jumped into the pool. Mediterranean themed delicacies and cocktails kept all the guests replenished for the energetic party.”, shared Pooja.

Dressed in a dusty rose embroidered gown, the bride made the most of the sunlight and danced away with fresh henna patterned on her hands.

Haldi
“The Haldi was a typical Rajasthani style affair where we had fusion singers, jugalbandi, and traditional folk instruments playing in the background. However, the highlight of the function was the surprise flower shower organized by my brothers who’d earlier told me that it wouldn’t be possible due to venue restrictions. Their surprise made my special day even more precious!”, recollects Pooja.

Taking the traditional route, the bride chose to don a bright yellow mirror work lehenga for the occasion while Sachin wore a floral bandhgala in the same hue.

Sangeet
“The sangeet was a glamorous function where we took a step away from tradition and followed a ‘shimmer night’ theme. The ceiling and the entrance were decorated with mirrors and sparkling danglers that reflected every light in the room and lit up the entire venue. Adding to this was the colossal stage which was backed by a huge LED screen that gave each performance a touch of dazzle. Staying in line with the theme, the bar was also created completely out of mirrors.”, shares Pooja.

Keeping her attire in sync with the theme, Pooja chose a dark blue sequin gown that flowed with her every twirl. Taking a cue from his bride, Sachin too opted for a dark blue printed bandhgala.

Wedding
“For our big day, we chose a traditional pink, gold, and cream color palette that went in sync with the grandeur of the venue. The phere took place under a golden dome-shaped mandap with a floral ceiling within the traditional amphitheater and was followed by a sit-down lunch for all guests. Everyone also had plenty of fun in the baraat as they danced along, accompanied by a massive cavalry of horses and camels. Also, a moving ‘drink station’ helped keep everyone cool under the desert sun.”, shared Pooja.

Glowing in her bright pink lehenga, Pooja was all smiles as she joined Sachin on the breathtaking mandap. He looked regal in a classic gold and white sherwani as he patiently waited for her to sit next to him.

Sufi Night/Reception
“The Sufi night had a ‘Moroccan’ theme, and the evening had a live Sufi band playing for all the guests to enjoy. Hookah pots and shamianas under the huge banyan tree sheltered the guests as they mingled and reveled in the music.”, shares Pooja.

Dressed in a white embroidered gown that she accessorized with a beaded necklace and statement earrings, Pooja was the showstopper of the evening as she mingled freely with the guests.

Advice For Couples
“Since this is going to be one of the biggest days of your life, visualize the plan, and discuss it in detail with your wedding planners. Get your family involved as much as possible since they’ll be instrumental in helping and supporting you. Keep both your outfits color-coded and decide a theme that matches your attire. Also, I can’t stress enough on hiring a good photographer and cinematographer as these are precious moments that you’ll carry with you forever.”, advises Pooja.
