Pragya and Amil, Malaysia
An exotic location and regal decor set the perfect tone for this ‘modernly-arranged marriage’.
Pragya and Amil’s dream wedding in Malaysia was an amalgamation of modern luxury and age-old tradition, with plenty of touching, light-hearted moments expertly documented by WeddingSutra Favorite – Weddings by Knotty Days.
How They Met
Interestingly, Pragya and Amil’s story goes way back. They knew of each other as teenagers, however, their friendship blossomed years later in a fateful love story with a contemporary twist. Pragya explains, “We call our relationship the ‘modernly-arranged marriage’. We had common family links and had met once or twice when we were teens. We had never even spoken to each other until his mother saw my profile on Facebook and sent Amil’s biodata to me! Amil then sent me a DM on Instagram. He says he wanted to check whether I was ready to get married as I was pretty young. I knew he liked me a little so we started talking. We talked for two long months and finally decided that we were ready to meet formally and get married! By the time all the arranged marriage formalities began, we had already made up our minds!”
She continues, “To be honest, it was a lot of fun as we got a chance to get to know each other and sneak around before anything was set with our families. Our story is unlike any Romeo-Juliet fantasy; it’s uncomplicated, and that’s exactly how we wanted it to be. Ours was a long-distance relationship that had some hardships but our love always made it easier.”
Wedding Venue
The marriage took place on the 17th of January 2019 at the magnificent Palace Of The Golden Horses in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This venue has hosted plenty of famous guests, including Queen Elizabeth and the late Nelson Mandela. It is also known for hosting international events.
Wedding Planning
With a location this stunning, the couple ensured they had a strong photography team to capture their happy moments. Their first and final choice was Weddings by Knotty Days.
Speaking from experience, the bride shares some advice for couples looking for photographers, saying, “I’d recommend Weddings by Knotty Days – they are the best in the business. There are no words to describe how much we love Nikhil and his team for making our wedding so memorable. Simran made efforts like no other photographer. I cannot thank them enough for guiding us and taking the most amazing pictures.” She adds that couples need to be patient with their photographers and have faith in their abilities.
The other wedding professionals who made a big impression on the bride were the makeup artist and hairstylist. Pragya says, “Pooja gained a special place in my heart. I’ve never come across an artist so well-versed in her field and so polite with her clients. She was a complete darling at the wedding and incorporated my inputs for my look. Sanjana, my hairstylist, also knew exactly what she was doing. She made sure I loved my hair and is kind enough to change anything you may not like.”
Wedding Functions
Haldi
The wedding celebrations kicked off with the haldi ceremony, which turned out to be the bride’s favorite pre-wedding ritual. She says, “My favorite moment was from our haldi ceremony which ended up being like Holi. It brought everyone together and all our guests had a wonderful time.”
Yellow dominated the decor for the event, with touches of vibrant orange adding to the celebratory ambience. The colorful ceremony was made even more entertaining with a fun and friendly game of tug of war.
Sufi Night
The haldi ceremony was followed by a sufi night later the same day. The couple wore matching mahogany-hued outfits as they partied with loved ones during the musical evening. Talking about the soulful event, Pragya says, “We were entertained by the band Indie Routes. The evening had a graceful Muslim touch. Guests mainly wore outfits in deeper shades with lots of embroidery.”
Mehndi
The second day of the wedding festivities began with a charming mehndi ceremony. Once again, the couple opted for matching outfits, this time in shades of pastel green. WeddingSutra Favorite – Weddings by Knotts Days, captured intimate and enchanting shots of the loved-up duo. The event was fun-filled, with the couple even playing the ‘Wedding Shoe Game’, leaving guests in splits.
Sangeet
The sangeet night, with its elaborate floral decor, exuded a magical, romantic vibe. The couple wore attires in powder pink, which perfectly complemented the theme of the evening. Multiple live performances made the sangeet a fun-filled event. However, it was Pragya’s special solo performance for Amil that was the highlight of the night, making the guests going wild with applause and whistles.
Wedding
The wedding day was a grand, luxurious affair, just as the couple had always dreamt of. It was the perfect blend of traditional customs and light-hearted moments. The friendly competition between the ladkewale and ladkiwale during the varmala ceremony had everyone in splits. The bride and groom looked regal as they were seated on the stage. The backdrop, lit up with elegant chandeliers, perfectly harmonized the regal theme.
Advice For Couples
The bride says, “Try not to lose your patience during the events. Being the bride or groom, everyone will want a picture with you or a drink with you. Make sure you remember to treat everyone politely. After all, these are your family, friends and guests who have all gathered to celebrate with you.”
