From a Bollywood theme party to a cheery pool party and a glamorous reception, Rahul and Drishti's wedding celebrations in tropical Thailand were an example of attention to detail and perfect planning.
Rahul and Drishti hosted their elaborate wedding celebrations planned by WeddingSutra Favorite I Do Etc. in the Land of Smiles – Thailand, and needless to say, they had everyone beaming through their celebrations.
Bride Drishti shares their beautiful love story and highlights of the wedding.
How we met
“We met in Bali at a wedding in February 2015. Our parents already knew each other and they introduced us. Rahul also introduced himself to me with that cheesy Bollywood dialogue -Bollywood dialogue – ‘Rahul, naam toh suna hi hoga’ and I honestly found him really funny! He couldn’t remember my name and called me ‘key girl’ throughout because I wear a key pendant. I enjoyed the wedding way more because he was around.
We lost touch until I had an internship in Dubai in May 2016. I dropped Rahul a message on Facebook to ask him about Dubai and he invited me to his birthday party, planned 5 days into my arrival. I was skeptical. I didn’t know anyone there but we met for ice cream and really clicked.
We started hanging out more, I met his friends and realized we had several mutual friends and interests in common. Before we knew it, we were in love. We started dating and our parents were really happy about this.”
Wedding Proposal
“We were shooting some video for our wedding and one of the clips had a lot of pranks in them. A formal proposal at this time was the last thing I expected. We had one last scene to shoot at home and when I saw family and friends there, I was surprised. Rahul suddenly took my hand, made me do a slow dance with him and got down on his knees. All this while the shoot was still going on. He gave a speech and proposed to me, and I said ‘Yes’ instantly!”
Wedding Venue
“In 2008, I had attended a wedding at Sheraton Hua Hin Resort and Spa and it was my dream to get married there! After travelling around Thailand and the Philippines too we took a trip to Hua Hin, and I was really hoping everyone would fall in love with the resort, and they did!”
Wedding Planning
“It’s a huge task to plan an Indian wedding and I Do Etc. hands down did the best job with our wedding. They made sure everything was perfect. I will never ever forget how special all of them are, from the day we landed in Thailand, till we left, they were there with us throughout. They make you feel like family.”
Wedding Functions
Mehndi
“We wanted a very floral and pastel hued mehndi party. Rahul and I entered on a tricycle filled with flowers and we had dance offs between the girl’s and boy’s side.”
Sangeet Soiree
“The sangeet was all about the dances and performances. It was a sparkly, glamorous evening with décor in blue and silver. The entrance was an LED split screen and we entered to our favorite song, ‘Bandook meri laila’. Rahul got down on his knee once again for the engagement ceremony. We also had a Vogue magazine photo booth that everyone loved. I’d always dreamed of having Guru Randhawa perform at my wedding since he released ‘Suit Suit Karda’. Thanks to my parents, we were able to have him perform at the sangeet and it was amazing!”
Pheras
“Red and silver were our décor highlights. I wore a custom-made lehenga with my entire love story weaved onto it; the date we met, mementos and keepsakes from the relationship, our birth dates and our favorite memories. We had a mirrored pillar mandap with red flowers on top and a red carpet. It was so perfect and exactly how we pictured it to be. This is why I really loved Oriental Events; they really go beyond your expectations.”
Violet Room After-Party
“We didn’t want the typical reception post the pheras but organized for everyone to chill out and party with us as we were officially married! The Violet Room concept was all Rahul’s idea;a dark ballroom full of neon and purple LED lights, crystal tables, black couches and grandstands on the sides. We also had a LED Robot with a Co2 gun! It was amazing. The highlight of the night was the 8-minute long groomsmen dance by Rahul and his close friends! People still talk about this night to us!”
Pool Party
“We basically had a neon fun party with a rain dance, massages for the ones who wanted to relax and live food stations. It was a crazy party and everyone ended up jumping in the pool.”
Bollywood Red Carpet
“We’d planned a Bollywood red carpet vibe for this event. We personally planned the décor, flashing cameras on the film clappers, a red carpet and a photo booth. Rahul and I dressed up as royals inspired from the movie ‘Padmavat’. Our guests dressed up as their very own favorite actors and actresses. We had games according to the attire and looks of the guests. It was amazing!”
