Sabah and Zaid, Udaipur
Jasmine chandeliers, rustic lamps & elegant mirrors enhanced the retro vibe of the heritage hotel where this couple wed.
Playing Cupid in their love story was Instagram! A charming profile discovery, a ‘Follow’ request, and a few direct messages paved the way for Zaid and Sabah’s love story. And, when the time came to tie the knot, the couple decided to do so in style with a lavish wedding in the stunning ‘City of Lakes’ – Udaipur in Rajasthan. Bride Sabah shares some special memories here.
How They Met
Sabah shares, “I’ve always had a soft spot for men in uniform, so when I came across Zaid’s picture on Instagram, I remember marveling at his appearance. Listed below the picture was his handle and I quickly decided to start following him. And, I’m sure Zaid must’ve been curious about me too as he sent me a DM and we got chatting. And as we exchanged phone numbers, our bond slowly got stronger. As I lived in Pune back then, and he was based in Mumbai, we used to meet up whenever he had a layover in Pune. And slowly, as each meeting went by, we fell in love. Sometimes, it’s hard to believe that we met online and actually got married.”
Wedding Venues
“For our big day and the pre-wedding functions, we zeroed in on The LaLiT Laxmi Vilas Palace Udaipur which is a heritage structure with breathtaking architecture. Surrounded by the Aravalli Hills and boasting scenic views of the Fateh Sagar Lake, this destination exuded romance and rich history. Our two receptions, however, were hosted at two glamorous venues – The Grand Hamvi Garden Andheri in Mumbai and The Ritz-Carlton in Pune.”
Wedding Planning
Acknowledging the colossal task of planning a destination wedding, Sabah and Zaid decided to rely on experts to guide them through the process. Sabah shares, “For the planning, we chose Vidushi and Naved of V & N Events and Entertainment who’re based in Udaipur, while for the photography we decided to go with nothing but the best and chose WeddingSutra Favourite – The Wedding Salad. My makeup artist for Udaipur, Shabnam Khanam along with Abida Mone, who did my Pune reception makeup, did an amazing job. However, for the Mumbai reception, I got my makeup done by beauty whiz Namrata Soni. Aditi Chavan, a close friend and a graphic designer, pitched in and designed our wedding cards while our beautiful logo featuring an aircraft was conceptualized by Ruchi Mehta. We decided to include an aircraft in our wedding logo not only because Zaid belongs to the aviation industry but also because both of us love traveling. Additionally, Trupti Jadhav created lovely luggage tags and itineraries for us.”
Weddings Functions
Mehndi and Haldi
Breezy, chic, and enchanting, this dual function witnessed everyone sharing plenty of laughs as they celebrated with the happy couple. Surrounded by mint green drapes with delicate floral details and jasmine chandeliers, the venue looked straight out of a fairytale as the bride and groom enjoyed each other’s company on a dainty white swing adorned with flowers.
Sangeet
Following a Sufi theme, the sangeet amped up the glamor stakes with decor elements like candles, gleaming mirrors, and vintage lamps that added to the heritage essence of the place. The couple decided to add a musical touch to the evening by roping in famous Rajasthani folk singer Kulte Khan who mesmerized everyone with his melodies.
Pre Wedding Lunch
A laid back affair that allowed everyone to relax and unleash their fun sides, the pre-wedding lunch decor consisted of a blue color palette which was reflected in the bright blue hangings that were strung across the venue. To entertain the guests, games like housie and scrabble were played with winners being awarded prizes for each round they won.
Wedding
Sabah shares, “I’ve always envisioned a fairytale themed wedding and with sheer determination, I made sure that every element reflected my vision of a dream wedding. The decor included fairy lights, rustic lanterns, and real blooms that gave the entire venue a surreal aura. Since we belong to different castes, we decided to have a registered marriage ceremony. However, the highlight of the evening was our seating area which had a fairytale book as a backdrop.”. Also in attendance at all the functions was TV star and heartthrob Karan Vohra, a close friend of the groom, who mingled freely with everyone and celebrated the happy couple’s union.
Reception
With a reception hosted in Mumbai and Pune, the duo ended their nuptials on a high and glamorous note. For their reception in Pune, a pastel color palette was chosen for the decor, with mint blue and baby pink elements. However, for the Mumbai reception, the couple chose to go take a glitzy route by embracing the buzzing spirit of the city.
Advice For Couples
“The most important part of the wedding is the planning. For our nuptials, I started planning months in advance and would advise everyone else to follow the same mantra as it saves you from numerous last-minute goof ups and allows you to be extremely detailed. Apart from that, just relax, enjoy your wedding and take every day as it comes.”
