The Proposal
Sahana recollects, “Vishal’s proposal was literally out of this world, set in one of the most iconic locations in San Francisco. He worked with a local escape room adventure company to hide small clues in puzzles that I had to solve which eventually led me to my ring! Behind the final hidden door was one last (and the best) surprise – all our family and friends were there waiting to celebrate with us! I can’t imagine a more perfect proposal for me.”

Photography
To preserve their once-in-a-lifetime memories, the couple entrusted Morii to do their magic with photography. Needless to say, they surpassed all expectations with their creativity. Vishal shares, “We had been following their work for years, and Vishal and I absolutely fell in love with what they gave us! The framing, lighting and editing were so unique compared to the hundreds of others we had come across. Right from our initial conversation, they were extremely friendly and approachable – we felt like we had hired friends to shoot our wedding. They scoured the grounds to pick unique locations and set the scene for us to capture some incredible shots. We will be cherishing these color-soaked and emotionally captivating photographs for a lifetime! Thanks to them, we’ll continue to chase the sunlight wherever we go!

Weddings Functions
Devara Samaradhane
A traditional prayer function, the Devara Samaradhane heralded the festivities. It includes offering a prayer to the family deity to start off the celebrations.

Haldi
Sahana shares, “Just to throw in a little bit of fun into the festivities, we decided to host a Haldi event. Essentially, neither Vishal nor I have it as a custom in our respective cultures. But then we always wanted to have a Haldi function in our wedding!”

Sangeet
Vishal shares, “We had envisioned the Sangeet to be an explosion of flavor, texture, color, sound and emotion – and the team delivered all that and more! We wanted to bring in the sensation of going to a local cultural mela with something fun for everyone – fortune tellers, caricature artists, balloon shooting, bangle makers, mehndi artists and food stalls. The wedding for us was never about just us – we wanted each and every guest to feel like they had a blast! This event was all about the little details. We had an old school film poster wall with our pictures, old Kannada and Telugu heroes and heroine posters, carnival bunting strewn everywhere and shimmering lights that lit up the entire venue.”

After the nuptials, we enjoyed a grand feast served on banana leaves.” Vishal further adds, “The stone arches and carved wooden doors at the venue served as the perfect backdrop for our wedding in the heart of Bangalore.”

Advice For Couples
The couple advises, “Weddings are largely about traditions, and naturally people are extremely attached to those of their own. Striking a balance between both family’s ancestral traditions as well as playing out our own Bollywood fantasies has been quite honestly the most challenging thing thus far. Making decisions on what stays and what goes is muddled with age-old superstitions, religious mandates, language barriers and a whole lot of emotion. Everything including timing, attire, food, guests and even the decor is up for debate!
And, here’s what we’ve learned:

1) You can’t please everyone. No matter what you decide, nobody gets exactly what they want, and that’s perfectly alright! So make room for small changes and compromises.

2) It’s not that big of a deal! Sometimes it feels like everything is a top priority, but in the grand scheme of things – it’s just one day of your life (or 3 in our case!). Try being flexible and you may be surprised how things end up working out in your favor.

3) We absolutely love our families! They have been so open to our non-traditional requests and constantly finding unique solutions to make our dreams come true, even if that means giving up on their own. I can’t imagine having to do this with anyone else, and I’m so glad to have them all on our side.”
