Sakshi Gehani and Behzad Irani, JW Marriott Mumbai Sahar
This couple’s cozy wedding looked beyond traditions to celebrate equality and modern love.
Interior Designer Sakshi Gehani and Advocate Behzad Irani tied the knot with a modern, inclusive ceremony that celebrated their shared values about marriage and life. Bringing their dream of a forest getaway to life right in the middle of a bustling city like Mumbai, WeddingSutra Favorite – Niché Events creatively conceptualized their wedding Watch it all unfold.
Wedding Planning
Tying the knot amidst Covid with lockdown restrictions, the couple envisioned a cozy wedding with 50 guests that celebrated their take on love and marriage and applauded their individuality. Team Niché Events brought every detail of their special moments to life with exquisite detail and care, while Varsha and her team at The Petite Project designed and executed the decor.
Special Touches
● As equal partners who value individual worth, the couple decided to forego the tradition of Kanyadaan in the spirit of equally joining each other’s families.
● The norm of the bride’s parents washing the feet of the groom, relevant to the olden days when wedding processions traveled long distances on foot, is often considered unsavory in today’s day and age. The couple chose to do away with the ritual, as a respectful gesture to their parents.
● While historically women have several symbols of marriage like mangalsutra, ring, bangles, and sindoor, men barely have any. The groom decided to express his love for his bride by joining her in wearing sindoor as a symbol of marriage and commitment.
● They brought on board a woman pandit to perform the ceremonies in accordance with their beliefs.
● They curated the entire decor to showcase their story and values, such as opting for artificial flowers and reusable elements to practice sustainability.
Wedding Functions
Wedding
As nature lovers, the couple wanted their wedding to be as eco-friendly and thoughtful as possible while being true to the lush aesthetics they envisioned. The wedding decor was kept as minimal as possible, to highlight the natural greenery of the venue. Plush arrangements of foliage decked every surface, while a canopy of hanging baskets and strings of Rajnigandha hung above the mandap. Soft white drapes, faux flowers, and string lights completed the magical setup. With a shared love of picking flowers, the couple even curated a corner with messages on paper hearts which the guests could pick like one picks flowers!
In keeping with a theme, the bride was resplendent in a pink floral lehenga for the occasion, while the groom sported a sherwani of soothing green and pink.
Cocktail
A tunnel of flower-decked teepees led into the festivities where the guests assembled to celebrate the newlyweds with music and dancing. Dressed in black and white, the couple was radiant with happiness as they played games and grooved to rousing beats with their loved ones. It was truly a celebration of love and happiness.
