Watch it come alive.
How you met
Sejal and Jagtar’s love story began over a decade ago at the University of Birmingham. Just spotting Sejal at an event had sparked an interest in Jagtar, even leading him to proclaim to a friend that he had found the one, and after months of anticipation, he finally met her officially at a party. Thanks to Jagtar’s persistence, they soon started dating, and through job changes and city relocations, their bond stayed resolute as they grew and thrived together. Today, Sejal is a London-based Junior Doctor, while Jagtar is an MBA. While they lead fulfilling professional lives, they also find joy in their shared connection of music and dance.

The Proposal
The couple knew they were in it for the long haul, and had been discussing marriage for a while, but things became real when they moved in together. By November 2023, Jagtar had planned a romantic proposal in their favorite secret garden in London. Despite Sejal’s head start on wedding planning, the proposal came as a total surprise, making the moment even more special.
Wedding Planning
The couple chose to have their wedding in Chandigarh. For Jagtar, celebrating their union in Punjab held particular significance given his deep connection to his roots. The hotel’s royal aesthetic and serene backdrop amplified the spiritual essence of their Sikh wedding ceremony.
The couple entrusted the team of Epic Stories to capture their special moments. Sharing their experience working with Himanshu and his Epic Stories team, they share “We really appreciated the team’s flexibility and how comfortable we felt in their company throughout the wedding. Epic Stories not only captured stunning images but also brought creative and original ideas to our shoots. We had high expectations based on the team’s social media presence, and the final photos easily surpassed them, leaving us with timeless memories of our special celebration.”
Wedding Functions
Haldi
The wedding festivities commenced with an intimate Haldi ceremony combined with a Ganesh Puja, organized by Sejal’s Masi at her parents’ villa. This gathering was a heartfelt homage to their home, where close family and friends shared chai and snacks in a warm, familial setting.
Sangeet
Inspired by 1920s Indian architecture, the Sangeet paid homage to the Netflix series ‘Heeramandi’, a show the couple had enjoyed together. The grand ambiance of The Oberoi, with its portraits of Punjabi royalty and magnificent chandeliers, was the perfect canvas. With a palette of gold, red, and green, the evening featured entertaining games, including the ‘Mr and Mrs’ quiz hosted by the couple’s brothers. The bride’s side, with their Bollywood dance moves, competed against the groom’s side with their traditional Jaggo performances. Rousing Punjabi music brought everyone to the dance floor.

Mehndi
This soiree combined the spirit of a traditional Indian Mehndi with the charm of an English garden party, reflecting both Sejal and Jagtar’s cultural backgrounds. Guests enjoyed a fusion menu curated by Chef Saurabh at The Oberoi, featuring delights such as scones, tea, Amritsari fish and chips, pani puri, and samosa chaat. A Chandigarh-based violinist provided an elegant musical backdrop, and a cricket match entertained the groomsmen, with Jagtar sporting a custom Liverpool football top with ‘GROOM’ branding on the back. The pastel pink and green color palette, along with thoughtful giveaways like tea, fans, and parasols, completed the ambiance.

Wedding
The wedding day seamlessly blended the beauty of their cultures with joyous celebration. The groom’s tractor-led baraat, featuring a DJ-on-wheels, injected a lively Punjabi spirit. The intimate Anand Karaj ceremony at the Gurudwara was peaceful and reflective while the varmala ceremony honored Sejal’s Jain background, symbolizing the union of their souls. The wedding lunch embraced their cultural fusion with a vegetarian Gujarati and Punjabi menu, including specialties like thepla, paneer tikka, and Sejal’s favorite paan ice cream. Decor elements included greenery, Bandhani prints, local Indian blooms, and incense giveaways.

Reception
The grand reception showcased an enchanted forest theme with a touch of glamour. Guests were captivated by clouds of baby’s breath, a live pianist, and the groom’s surprise performance of Sejal’s favorite Hindi songs. The dinner was a multi-course celebration of Indian cuisine accompanied by live jazz. Emotional speeches from loved ones struck a balance between laughter and tears, and the night culminated in joyful dancing. The color palette featured black, silver, white, and green, with locally sourced rose candles as guest giveaways.

Advice for couples
Sejal shares “Keep the planning group small to streamline decision-making. For our wedding, only my father and Jagtar’s mother helped us plan, making the process smoother and more efficient. Make sure you and your partner are on the same page regarding the ceremonies and events that hold significance for you, as this helps navigate differing opinions between families.”
She adds “Planning can sometimes feel overwhelming, so make sure you enjoy the process, whether it’s bonding over guest lists, appreciating the people in your lives, or discovering amazing vendors. Take notes at other weddings for inspiration. And above all, be present and enjoy the wedding day itself, which is much easier with the support of great vendors.”
