Shivali Gaikwad, an architect and Samir Jagdish, an Environmental research associate tied the knot in a quiet and intimate wedding ceremony hosted in Taj Bekal Resort & Spa , Kerala. Reflecting, both Malayalam and Marathi wedding traditions, this union was simple, colorful and heartfelt.
How They Met
Shivali shares, “We first met in Mumbai and started dating in New York where we went to graduate college and worked for a couple of years before moving back to Mumbai. Our proposal was everything I’d dreamed of as Samir proposed to me on a hike overlooking the Himalayas in Northern India.”
Wedding Venue
The couple chose Kerala for their January wedding when the climate would be pleasant. This was perfect for Shivali, who loves waterbodies and Samir, whose family hails from Kerala. It provided the best of both worlds by having access to a beach as well as possessing the backwaters within its premises.

Surrounded by swaying palm trees, a sunkissed sky and the gentle rush of the backwaters – the baraat commenced on a fun note. The groom arrived with his entourage and was welcomed by the bride’s family. Waiting at the mandap, which flaunted white and gold hues, Samir’s eyes were instantly drawn to Shivali who made a graceful entry seated on a wooden canoe that glided through the backwaters. The fusion wedding ceremony transcended the boundaries of culture as both families came together to celebrate love.
