Our series, Featured Weddings brings you wonderful moments from weddings held at the finest venues across different cities. Here, bride Shruti shares memories of how she met Lalit, how he proposed and their marriage celebrations in New Delhi.
How we met
“Lalit and I first met in a company named Comviva in July 2008. We were in the same batch of 30 freshers during the initial days of our training and eventually spent a lot of time together during training sessions. It was the work, casual celebrations at office and chilling with colleagues that eventually led us to becoming good friends. We were friends for more than six years, but thought about marriage only in 2014.”
Wedding Proposal
“Lalit proposed to me when we were travelling to Bruges, in Belgium. Though I was expecting him to propose, it took me a little time to digest the fact. However, after a week I finally said ‘Yes!‘ In the beginning, I was a little afraid to tell my parents about Lalit and his marriage proposal. It was only in December 2014 that I disclosed things to them before heading to New Delhi to meet them. Lalit had planned his visit to India around the same time and met my parents for an hour-long interview, which comprised mostly typical interview questions that a girl’s father asks a prospective groom. The meeting went well, after which both our families met and decided on the next steps.”
Wedding Functions
Sai Sandhya
“This was an auspicious start to the festivities and an intimate family function attended by close friends and relatives. The theme for this traditional ritual was festive and this function took place at Sai Sagar Dham and Durga Mandir in New Delhi.”
Sagan Ceremony
“The ‘Sagan/Tilak’ ceremony took place at the Petal Banquet Hall, which was resplendent with fresh flowers that were used as the major component of the décor. I wore a beautiful navy blue and pink lehenga sourced from Chandni Chowk which had intricate gold and pink embroidery, while Lalit looked handsome in a royal kurta ensemble from Gujralwala which also had matching gold and pink accents.”
Mehndi and Cocktail
“The theme for the mehndi and cocktail function was ‘Bollywood’, and the decor included filmy posters and movie related accents that impressed guests. Lalit and I made a red carpet entry, and the evening was vibrant with lots of music, dancing and family revelry. I wore an elegant blue ensemble from Roop Vatika, and Lalit looked dapper in a black tuxedo from Diwan Saheb.”
Wedding
“The style of the wedding was classic and elegant with a Rajwada theme. Our beautifully crafted mandapstole the show and made the entire pheras ceremony seem magical and dreamy. It was just what I had wanted. The venue for the wedding was the Hotel City Park in Kapashera, and we had over 700 guests who attended this event. We even arranged for three entertainment acts which our guests appreciated and enjoyed. I wore a quintessential red lehenga with intricate gold details, and Lalit wore a traditional sherwani from Gujralwala.”
Advice for to-be-wed couples
“I think when you start planning your wedding you should have a clear idea of your budget, time constraints and how perfect do you want your event to be. As we lived in Amsterdam, managing the time we had to execute things was a major concern. It’s important to hire the right professionals, who understand you and your partner and help make your wedding memorable. Pictures and videos stay with you for the rest of your life, so hire the best photographer. Lastly have loads of fun!”
