Sumedha and Jan, Jaypee Vasant Continental Hotel, New Delhi

An unforgettable first date that started a new chapter with a wedding marked with laughter and stunning outfits.

After clicking on a dating app, Sumedha and Jan decided to meet for their first date at Forest Park. It was the height of the pandemic, so the park seemed like a good idea. The couple hit it off immediately and talked about everything under the sun, until the sun started setting! They found themselves locked inside the golf course and escaped by crawling under the gate. That set the tone for their lifetime of adventure together.

When it came to exchanging their forever vows, the two chose Jaypee Vasant Continental in New Delhi with WeddingSutra Favorite – Mohit Jaura Photography capturing their memories forever in stunning shots!

The Proposal
Sumedha says, “After moving to New Orleans for my fellowship, I was excited to see my first Mardi Gras. Jan decided to come over and we planned a trip to our favourite restaurant, Restaurant R’evolution. He spun it as a makeup dinner for Valentine’s Day and had colluded with our friends at the restaurant to pop the question!”

She adds that as the dinner ended, the staff/the couple’s friends at the restaurant came out with an elaborate box and Jan dropped to his knees “so nervously, pulling out the ring and asking me to marry him”.

Wedding Planning
Sumedha says that she planned the wedding from USA. “I recruited my parents, sister and cousin, to whom I give special credit. We created a wedding group and spent a year keenly researching the ideal venue, photography, events planner, MUA, etc.”

“It was extremely hard to coordinate as I was not there for fittings and to actually see the venue, test products, truly understand vision, etc. In such cases, it is extremely helpful to have siblings to assist you and despite rigorous planning, something always goes wrong!”

She adds, “We chose Mohit Jaura as our photographer after looking at their wonderful work on my close friend, Ishika Chakraborty’s wedding in 2024. I loved how they captured the essence of her wedding and especially gravitated towards the bright tones of their photography. My experience with Mohit’s team was wonderful. They were punctual, understood the assignment and helped us capture playful as well as very romantic poses. They were able to extract beautiful pictures from even the most mundane and tired moments. I was happy with the montage of photos they created for us, and have their pictures of both our Christian and Hindu weddings all over our house!”

Wedding Functions
Haldi
The Haldi was a traditional affair and the bride shone in a yellow by Matsya. Fresh blooms, décor in marigold flowers and handheld fans added a touch of classic sophistication to the function. The couple was blessed with both, a turmeric paste and a flower shower by loved ones, making it a playful affair.

Sangeet
For the Sangeet, Sumedha wore a sleek black Amit Agarwal dress complemented by the groom’s bespoke suit tailored in New York. A champagne glass tower marked the evening’s high spirits!

Wedding
The bride and groom celebrated a Christian and Hindu wedding to honor both their heritages. A wall with their photographs and graphic cards with notes of appreciation for each other marked the moment. Where, for the Christian wedding the venue was swathed in white with a peach pink hue for the stage, the Hindu wedding saw the traditional red blooms with ivory accents and brass bells marking a canopy of sorts. The bride wore a red lehenga while the groom was stunning in a ivory sherwani.

The couple’s advice
“My biggest regret and advice to others will be to get a wedding planner. I did not get one and felt I was running around like a headless chicken trying to make sure things were happening in order, instead of actually enjoying the events.”
