The grand wedding of Vani and Sumit in New Delhi was documented in detail by the US TV show ‘CBS News’ in their morning segment called ‘The World of Weddings.” The CBS team sends correspondents all across the globe to capture unique ceremonies to understand what marriage means in different cultures. Here, take a look at some highlights of this beautiful wedding.
How they met
Sumit recalls, “We’ve known each other for a long time. We were acquaintances, but never dated. Six months ago, I happened to like Vani’s picture on Facebook, after which we met at a mutual friend’s party and exchanged pleasantries that led to a never-ending conversation. In our different yet so similar personalities, we found a partner for a lifetime in each other. And, the rest is history.”
The Proposal
Vani shares, “Sumit flew to Canada, where I was pursuing my studies. On his trip, he asked me if I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him, and I had always known what my answer would be! I instantly said ‘Yes’ and there was no turning back. I have no words to express how I felt that day.”
Wedding Functions
Engagement
The engagement ceremony at Le Meridian Hotel, New Delhi, was the first function to kick start the wedding festivities. Black and gold decor with exotic flowers kept the atmosphere modern yet traditional. The couple exchanged rings and had a gala time with family and friends. Their proposal video was played during the event for the guests to see their moment of love. For the evening, Vani chose a stunning bluish-grey gown by Shantanu & Nikhil, whereas Sumit picked a navy blue tuxedo with delicate sequin work by Dieeu & Orr.
Sundowner Mehndi and Sangeet
The mehndi ceremony was a sundowner at Shangri-la Eros Hotel, New Delhi, as both Vani and Sumit wanted to keep things light and different. The theme was ‘Colorful and Rustic’, and the decor included a huge ice bar with the couple’s hashtag, #IfoundSumVan, placed near the entrance. Members from both families put up heartfelt dance performances for the couple which was followed by live music by Bombay Rockers. The bride looked stunning in a yellow lehenga by Apurva Motwaani, she later changed into an outfit by Sankiahit by Sandhya Gambhir Ahuja, and Sumit complemented her in his floral, asymmetrical bandh gala ensemble by Dieeu & Orr.
Wedding
The wedding day started off with the couple celebrating their wedding traditions at their respective places. The chooda and haldi ceremonies on the bride’s side had everyone in a merry mood. The groom made a grand entry at the Seven Seas Hotel, New Delhi, on a white horse. The mandap decor had mixed bunches of leaves of all shapes and sizes, and vintage chandeliers to give it a fusion vibe. Vani wore a red Dolly J lehenga, and Sumit picked a grey sherwani by Shantanu & Nikhil for this auspicious occasion.
Reception
Their reception was a glamorous event held at the grand wedding hall of Riviera by Ferns N Petals, Gurugram. With soulful performances by Sukh-E, Jassi Gill and Babbal Rai, the night was a memorable one. The decor exuded luxury with a red and gold theme and included pearl-drop golden chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, floral arrangements and golden centerpieces added to the opulence of the venue. The bride wore a beautiful red lehenga with heavy zari work by Manish Malhotra which matched the groom’s customized velvet tuxedo by Dieeu and Orr.
