Supriya and Kyle, Jaipur
Supriya and Kyle's wedding in Jaipur included a Tamil marriage ceremony which charmed every guest from abroad.
New York-based Kyle and Supriya tied the knot at an extravagant destination wedding in Jaipur, the beautiful capital city of the state of Rajasthan. Their nuptials were planned by WeddingSutra Favorite – Weddings by Event Crafter. Here, bride Supriya shares some highlights of the fun festivities.
How They Met
“We are both based out of New York where we have been living for the last five years. We met how most people in New York meet – through a dating app! After three years of dating, Kyle popped the question one fine day, after my workout session!”
Wedding Planning
“I always knew that I wanted to get married in India, specifically in Kerala, at a venue close to the backwaters. However, since we were getting married in August, we knew that Kerala would not be a good option because of the monsoons. Jaipur had always been the second option on our minds as it was one of the cities Kyle and I visited together on his first trip to India, and it’s so full of historical and beautiful sites. Also, we wanted the trip to be a holistic experience for our loved ones, and not one that was only focused on the wedding. When we finally narrowed it down to Jaipur, we started to take a closer look at the hotels. The team of Weddings by Event Crafter was very flexible and helpful until the very end. With us being based in New York and Chennai, we needed someone to be our hands on the ground, and they ensured that all the final details were well taken care of.”
Wedding Venue
“ITC Rajputana has a classic and authentic appeal which attracted us. Kyle and I were not so convinced by newer properties that seemed inauthentic and a little tacky. ITC Rajputana was the right size for our wedding group and had the right aesthetic for our needs.”
Wedding Functions
Haldi and Mehndi
“The mehendi and haldi ceremonies were filled with beautiful summer colors. The most vibrant events of the whole wedding, the dual functions took place in the courtyard lawn which had antique wooden furniture as the backdrop. A huge chandelier was suspended in the centre of the seating canopy. Gota tassels, brightly colored couches, and cutting tea glasses with marigold flowers all added a quirky charm to the decor.”
Sangeet
“The sangeet night was illuminated by bright fairy lights. This function was hosted on the rooftop venue of ITC Rajputana called The Hawa Mahal. The decor color palette included shades of blue and white with glitter all around.”
Muhurtham
“Our muhurtham (wedding ceremony) took place at 7 am in the hotel’s lobby. The mesmerizing lobby made the perfect venue for our Tamil wedding ceremony. The marble staircase and the mosaic floor added grandeur to the decor. The centre fountain was decked up subtly in the colors of our wedding invitation card with our initials logo as the main installation. The whole lobby was decorated with yellow and white marigold and tuberose blooms. The muhurtham was followed by a traditional South Indian Breakfast which included a setting with several rows of tables to accommodate all our guests at the same time. The tables were organised neatly covered in a symphony of yellow and orange fabric.”
Talking about the meticulous efforts of the wedding planning team and the hotel in executing her dream wedding, the bride added, “The wedding took place at 7 am in the morning that too in the magnificent lobby of the hotel. This was a really big deal for me and Kyle as it was the first time the hotel allowed a wedding to be hosted in its lobby! Although the planning team and the hotel had a very short time to get the decor in place, they ensured that the entire lobby was decorated to perfection in less than five hours. Our family and guests were really thrilled to see the precision and efforts put, both by Weddings by Event Crafter and ITC.”
Reception
“A formal reception was hosted at the poolside banquet venue. However, it started pouring suddenly and we quickly moved the speeches and cake cutting to the lobby. The iconic moment when I climbed the grand staircase for my speech gave goosebumps to the guests. As the speeches got over and the rains stopped, the party finally shifted back to the poolside. The night started on the high notes of the very talented Tanya Nambiyar and her band playing our favorite tracks. The night was thoroughly enjoyed by our guests who danced their hearts out to the amazing music.”
Advice for couples
“Start planning early on and talk to each other about what you like, don’t like and what all events you plan to have. Not everyone needs to be involved, so choose the people you trust to be part of your planning group. If you’re not based in the city you want to get married in, it’s very helpful to hire a local event planner to help you coordinate with different vendors.”
