Set in the hills of Shimla, Tarisha and Aarush’s wedding unfolded as a warm, tradition-led celebration shaped by Pahadi customs and close family ties. Photographed by WeddingSutra Favorite – Plush Affairs, the festivities were captured with an eye for emotion and atmosphere, allowing the natural rhythm of the celebrations, ranging from daytime rituals to softly lit evenings, to come through with quiet clarity.
How They Met
Tarisha and Aarush first met during their B.Tech days at UPES, Dehradun. Hailing from the same hometown of Shimla, their early interactions were casual and familiar. “It began with simple ‘hi-hello’ conversations,” Tarisha shares. A Facebook friend request soon led to long chats, hours spent together at the college amphitheatre, and a bond that deepened organically over time.
Wedding Planning
Planned as a traditional Pahadi wedding, the celebrations were anchored in regional rituals and cultural detail. Each event was designed to feel open and welcoming, with décor and ambience kept understated to allow the traditions to take precedence. Daytime ceremonies were characterised by natural light and open settings, while evening celebrations unfolded in a softer, more intimate atmosphere with layered florals and warm illumination.
Approaching the wedding with a documentary sensibility, Plush Affairs focused on capturing candid emotions, shared glances, and fleeting moments that might otherwise go unnoticed. Reflecting on the experience, Tarisha and Aarush share, “The photography team was absolutely professional, friendly, and such a joy to work with. They made us feel completely comfortable throughout the celebrations and captured every moment beautifully. We couldn’t be happier with the photographs and are eagerly awaiting the final film.”
Wedding Functions
Haldi
Held outdoors under clear skies, the Haldi ceremony was marked by bright marigold accents and a relaxed, celebratory energy. Surrounded by family and friends, the ritual unfolded with laughter and spontaneity, setting a joyful tone for the festivities ahead.
Mama Swagat
One of the most culturally significant moments of the wedding, the Mama Swagat honoured a cherished Pahadi tradition. The maternal uncle’s arrival was welcomed with Nati, the native folk dance, accompanied by Baja played by traditional Turi musicians. “It’s a ritual that holds immense importance for our family,” Tarisha shares. “Watching everyone come together in song and dance during the Mama Swagat was truly special.”
Wedding
The wedding ceremony took place beneath a floral mandap defined by soft whites, cascading greens, and gentle chandelier lighting. The décor remained restrained and elegant, allowing the rituals and emotions to lead, while the surrounding setting added a sense of quiet intimacy to the moment.
Reception
The celebrations concluded with an evening reception that embraced a deeper, more composed palette. Rich textures, rich red hues, floral installations, and warm lighting created a refined yet welcoming atmosphere, bringing Tarisha and Aarush’s Shimla wedding to a graceful close.
