Troy Bjerkness and Ansh Paranjape’s wedding by the coast of Mexico brimmed with vibrant hues that showcased the beauty of Indian weddings. Inculcating elements of the local Mexican traditions, the couple embraced a profusion of cultures as they took the plunge into marital bliss.
How They Met
Troy and Ansh met during November in a way that can only be described as fate. The two met during a significant transition in their lives. Ansh was going through employment changes, and Troy left Santa Barbara to buy and flip a house in Willmar, two hours away from Ansh. Both of them were in a place where starting a long-distance relationship seemed like an awful idea. However, the chemistry was undeniable. Through all the sacrifices came growth. During Ansh’s proposal to Troy, they recognized the beautiful change the two gave each other through flipping houses, supporting career changes, and working from home, spending 24 hours a day, seven days a week together.
Wedding Planning
The couple shares, “We aimed to blend the best of both cultures to create an unforgettable experience for our guests. From colorful Indian attire and vibrant decorations to classic Western music and cuisine, our wedding was a true fusion of styles. Our guest list was a global one and we wanted everyone to taste the local flavors and immerse themselves in the local culture. Along with our wedding invitation, we provided our guests with accommodation recommendations, a list of nearby activities and restaurant suggestions.”
Wedding Functions
Mehndi and Sangeet
The celebrations commenced with a lively mehndi and sangeet. A canopy created out of garlands of marigold blooms sheltered the guests as Ansh and Troy got their hands patterned with henna. With a global guest list, the international attendees were quite fascinated with the henna patterns on their palms. Ansh’s family also hosted pre-wedding puja rituals. Once, the henna was dry, it was time for the sangeet. As dusk fell, the wedding party geared up to take the stage by storm with some epic performances!
Haldi
Next in line was the haldi ceremony and the guests colour-coordinated their outfits in bright yellow hues. Surrounded by tropical palms, straw-thatched roof gazebos and whimsical decor elements, the to-be-weds were at their cheerful best as their loved ones slathered them with turmeric. With the seashore close by, the couple then frolicked in the waves to wash off the turmeric mixture.
Wedding and Reception
Vibrant blooms, wooden chairs and marigold garlands made the wedding celebration a visual feast against the backdrop of the waves. The minimally decorated mandap highlighted the greenery around the venue. Later in the evening taking advantage of the cool February sea breeze, a simple open-air reception was hosted where the newlyweds played the game of piñatas to honor the local culture.
