Krystle and Shiv, Pier Sixty, Manhattan, New York
From candles to chocolates, cocktails to charming decor, Krystle and Shiv’s grand New York weekend wedding was an absolute dream and included all their favorite things.
Shiv and Krystle’s picture-perfect wedding at Pier Sixty, Manhattan’s largest waterfront venue, featured an amazing feast for guests that included tacos, S’mores and the most romantic decor. Here, Krystle shares more details of their memorable nuptials.
How We Met
Shiv and Krystle met five years ago, through a mutual friend at a bar in West Village, New York. Shiv a true Jersey boy, works in their family-run recycling business and Krystle, a full-fledged city girl from Hong Kong works in the financial services industry in Manhattan. Five years later and after numerous date-nights, travels and laughs, Shiv proposed and made it official.
Wedding Venue
“The wedding was hosted at Pier Sixty in Chelsea, which is Manhattan’s largest waterfront venue. We initially wanted to get married in Florida or Mexico, however, given the Zika outbreak, it was more important to have our family and friends be present at our wedding than to have them call this one out or be a stressed attendee throughout the weekend.”
Wedding Planning
“The wedding planning process took us quite a bit. Finding a venue that we loved for 450 people was slightly challenging. We scouted the venues ourselves and did most of the leg work, as I had a vision of what I wanted for our wedding and wanted to ensure our vendors understood it. We had Rose Events (our wedding planner) to help us figure out logistics and keep us on track. We needed to ensure that everyone coming from near and far had a crazy good time and really got to relax and party. We wanted the guests to have time to venture to shop, eat and sight-see.(after all, they are in New York!) This downtime was important so we tried to keep the weekday activities relatively lighter.
Wedding Functions
Mehndi
“We had a very intimate mehndi ceremony at the Bridal Suite after the ‘Ghari’ ceremony. It was a few of my closest cousins and girlfriends – I wanted it to be a very relaxed evening for the girls and did not want this to be another event they had to doll up for. Along with the mehndi application, we relished delectable cupcakes, champagne and had unlimited conversations!”
Sangeet
“Next up, it was time for some fun at our glitzy sangeet night at New York’s Intercontinental Barclay Hotel. The sangeet had an “Enchanted Garden” theme and the décor was incorporated with lots of jewel-colored hues to decorate the room. Elegant Affairs created my mom’s vision of a beautiful branched decor piece which was the perfect spot for photos. We enjoyed some lip-smacking Indian food and of course dessert later that night and danced the night (and calories) away till the wee hours the next morning!
Wedding
“The wedding was hosted at Pier Sixty in Chelsea. The ballroom is strategically located on the Hudson River, and has beautiful floor to ceiling windows that offer breathtaking views of the Hudson River and New York, as wanted to capture the sunset during our ceremony. The decor had to be romantic, cozy and timeless, so we incorporated cherry blossom centerpieces and hanging candles. I am obsessed with candles and love the ambiance it sets – so that was a must! Shiv arrived on a horse and danced to the tunes of his live band and dhol to start the celebrations. As we are both huge foodies, the cocktail hour and dinner menu took a good amount of time to decide on. We decided on adding in some additional food stalls like a taco+margharita cart as well as a burger+beer cart. For dessert, we indulged with an Irish Coffee Station and a S’mores station – all capped off with a professional cigar roller for the boys.
I wore the most beautiful deep red lehenga designed by Sabyasachi Mukherjee which made me feel like an absolute princess; his clothes have a way of doing that! Since the ensemble had a modern bridal look, I accessorized it with an uncut diamonds necklace and a simple maang tikka as I wanted the lehenga to shine through the evening.
Wedding Vendors
Makeup
“For my bridal look, I chose to surrender to the makeup prodigy, Natasha Moor. She’s a very close family friend, and both our families have been friends even before we were born! It’s wonderful to see someone you have known since they were a toddler build a business with such brilliance. Her dedication, motivation and work ethic is far and beyond anything I have seen – she truly loves what she does and you can see that in her work!”
Photography
“Doodle Studio did our wedding photography and videography, and their team was very easy and friendly to work with. They made sure they captured some of the most important moments of the wedding flawlessly. We are happy we chose them to document the most important days of our lives.”
Decor
“The owners of Elegant Affairs are good friends with Shiv’s family. They are the most renowned decor artists in New York, and they did a superb job with our decor arrangements. We couldn’t have been happier with the dreamy yet sophisticated ambiance they created. Their team was always willing to accommodate our requests and help with ideas.”
Wedding Invitations
“Harsh and his wife from Customizing Creativity in Mumbai were terrific to work with and I must say, they did a fantastic job with the wedding invites. I wanted something slightly different from the usual gold and ivory themed cards, yet still elegant. The lanterns tied in with the ‘Enchanted Garden’ sangeet theme.”
