Celebs @India Bridal Week

If you’re thinking India Bridal Week is a one-stop shop for brides looking for their dream ensembles you’re mistaken. The event at Hotel Sahara Star is actually a platform for couture designers to showcase their rich creations to Mumbai’s media and glitterati. One of the participating designers spoke to us in confidence: “I doubt if any to-be-brides or grooms actually attend India Bridal Week; the five-day event is basically a brand-building exercise for designers, and the focus is on generating a buzz in the media.”

Day 1

Many of Mumbai’s socialites made it to Anjalee and Arjun Kapur’s show—two of Mumbai’s most sought-after ‘Celebrity Guest & Events’ managers were there. South Mumbai’s Sharmilla Khanna and Bandra’s Bhavana Pandey. Others present included Rhea Pillai, Madhoo Shah, Malini Agarwalla of Malaga and designers Seema Khan and Deepika Gehani. Rocky S and Vikram Phadnis’ show saw a lot of Bollywood personalities. Juhi Chawla, Shama Sikander, Ashish Choudury with wife Samita, Sophie Choudhury, Preeti Jhangiani and Lucky Morani.

Day 2

On Day 2, Bhairavi Jaikishan’s socialite friends turned up wearing her creations. Former model Tanaz Doshi who is married to industrialist Chirag Doshi looked prettiest in a saffron saree. Others who came wearing Bhairavi’s creations included Pooja Bedi, Nisha Javeri, Lata Patel and Kunika Singh. Tina Tahiliani Parikh of Ensemble and designer Shahab Durazi who is rarely seen at parties and fashion shows was also there.

Queenie Singh’s show (the clothes were done by Ramona Narang) just after Bhairavi’s show was again high on the celeb quotient. Roohi and Chetan Jaikishan, Rukhshana Eisa, Sharmilla Khanna, Dr Farhad Taraporvala, Kekashan Patel, Poonam Sinha and Zarine Khan.

Sanjay Khan and his family members wife Zarine, daughters Simone and Suzanne were the star guests at Adarsh Gill’s show. The Khans are old friends of Adarsh Gill and Zayed Khan alongwith Dia Mirza were the showstoppers for the show.

Sonam Kapoor at IIJW Finale: The Empress of Style

India’s much loved fashion icon, Sonam Kapoor, was the epitome of elegance as she walked the ramp at the finale of India International Jewellery Week. While Sonam’s grace was enhanced by her Falguni and Shane Peacock maroon gown, the centre of attention was Sonam’s necklace, a one of a kind design, ‘Queen of the Night’ by Shaun Leane for international jewellery brand Boucheron from Paris. The Queen of the Night necklace was inspired by the flower of the same name; created with blue sapphires, white diamonds and rubies the necklace has a detachable part that can be worn separately as a pendant.

When asked for her comment on the necklace, Sonam spoke as a true jewellery lover, “The whole point of the look is very wild and other worldly. It reminds me of the Shakespeare’s description of Elizabethan age and their jewellery. This one piece enhances your beauty. There is a special mechanism that makes the flowers open and close.”

Sonam’s makeup was done by Celebrity makeup artist Mallika Bhat. Since the focus had to be on the jewellery, Mallika gave her a minimalistic look with the dewy skin as the focal point.

Talking about Tanishq’s theme for the IIJW 2011, Revathi Kant, Head Design and Innovation, Tanishq, said, “This year at IIJW, we chose to take jewellery aficionados back to the rich era of Nizams through luxuriantly designed ‘Jewels of Falaknuma’. Through this concept, we have tried to interpret the traditional jewels of Nizam dynasty in a contemporary-fusion style. Efforts have been made towards re-creating the Nizam rulers and make them walk down the ramp in a stylized yet edgy portrayal.”
