Visited: Greece and Austria
For our honeymoon, we decided on Greece and Austria as
neither if us has been there before.
In Greece, we went to Athens, Corinth, Meteora, Paros
Island and Santorini Island. All together, it took us eighteen days to explore the
historical Greece mainland and the islands. While deciding on our accommodation we kept
two factors in mind: budget and accessibility. While in Malaysia we got hold of a travel
agent (whom we found on the Internet) who managed to get us the best deals and who also
reserved the hotels and ferries to the Island.
In Greece, we stayed at Evripides Hotel and the Athinea
Hotel. Both hotels were near Omonia square, about a 10 minutes walk from the entrance of
the Metro station. Hotel Evripides is about a 15 minutes walk from Syntagma square, where
the historical monuments stand proudly. At Paros Island we stayed at Pandrossos Hotel and
in Santorini Island at Sunrise Hotel.
In Vienna, we stayed in the Central district called
Mariahilf as we only had 4 days to explore the city.
Best Memories - Greece
Athens- Acropolis, Pathenon
Santorini island- The sea-filled caldera, a vestige of what
was probably the world's largest volcanic eruption. Its landscapes of blue-domed roofs,
dazzling white walls and black-sand beaches are a contrast of the charming and the
unearthly.
Meteora- The monasteries of Meteora are one of the most
extraordinary sights in mainland Greece. Built into and on top of huge pinnacles of smooth
rock, the earliest monasteries were reached by climbing articulated removable ladders.
Later, windlasses were used so monks could be hauled up in nets, a method used until the
1920s.
Best Memories - Austria
- Yummy chocolates, pastries and coffee.
- At two-euro dollars you can watch an Opera and a Ballet. But we had to queue up 4 hours
before the show. But it was all a marvelous experience!
- The lovely green landscapes.
Advice to other Honeymooners
1) Book in Advance
2) Change the currency in your own country as the commissions charged in these countries
are high.
3) Pack light, so you can do loads of shopping.
