Highlights from the WeddingSutra MasterClass at The Palace Hall, NSCI, Mumbai
WeddingSutra Engage, Wedding Summit & Masterclass - Dec 18, 2017
The latest edition of the WeddingSutra MasterClass ‘Travel and Destination Weddings’.
This visually stunning and stimulating WeddingSutra MasterClass was strategically planned to provide inspiration on bridal and resort wear, and destination weddings, specifically in Thailand.
The panelists for the first discussion (‘Thai’ing the Knot) were Parthip Thyagarajan, CEO of WeddingSutra, Khun Soraya Homchuen, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand in Mumbai, Nagsri Prasad Vice President of Mercury Travels, and Nishita Patwardhan Singh, Co-founder of ‘On Cue Productions’. The MasterClass witnessed an educative analysis on the hotspots for honeymoons around the world, and why Thailand continues to be the most preferred international destination for Indian weddings.
The session titled, ‘Thai’ing the Knot’, saw Khun Soraya and Nishita, along with Nagsri, touch upon the different aspects of elaborate Indian weddings, and how they require a special range of services and facilities that are different from other weddings – such as mehndi (henna) artists and traditional drum (‘dhol’) – all of which are easily available in Thailand today. So, families do not need to fly down these artists and performers from India for destination weddings in Thailand. Nishita who wed in Koh Samui over 9 years ago shared her own experience as a real bride and how it was an enjoyable yet challenging experience to plan a destination wedding there.
The experts also engaged with the audience and responded to questions by brides and wedding planners who wanted to understand more about the best locations and new venues that Thailand offers for destination weddings.
After a short break, it was time to unveil the bridal looks designed by Nachiket Barve for three WeddingSutra readers. The brides-to-be looked gorgeous in the designs with a flawless makeover by makeup artist Taniyaa Khanna. Their look was completed with intricate jewellery by Mahesh Notandas. The panel discussion between Nachiket Barve and Celebrity Stylist Aastha Sharma of Wardrobist was moderated by Devangi Parekh of Aza Fashions. Titled ‘What’s Trending in Bridal and Resort Wear,’ this session saw the panelists handing out guides to brides-to-be. Nachiket shared tips garnered from his real-life experiences, and suggested that couples and wedding planners should take even the finer details in functions like the ‘jaimala’ (garlanding ceremony) into account, especially if it is a beach wedding. Aastha shared the importance of choosing wedding jewellery, fabrics and silhouettes keeping in mind the hot and humid weather at beach destinations and the timings of the ceremonies. Both, Nachiket and Aastha pointed out that mixing and matching outfits for different occasions is a trend that is quickly catching up with fashion-forward brides-to-be, which therefore increases the lifespan of the outfit.
The MasterClass concluded with a networking session co-hosted by Shaan Khanna of Networking Now. Leading names and professionals in the weddings industry exchanged ideas while relishing the impressive vegetarian spread by popular wedding caterers Pavitra. From traditional meals to modern fanfares, Pavitra, with a 45-year legacy, aims to curate menus keeping in mind one’s every requirement and taste.
The showcase partners at the networking session included Bombay Barons (artisanal & gourmet food for healthy snacks and gifting) and Malaki lifestyle products who offer a range of perfumes, gourmet teas, fine foods and exotic chocolates.
