WeddingSutra Engage at The St. Regis Mumbai
WeddingSutra Engage, Wedding Summit & Masterclass - Aug 10, 2016
Designer duo Shyamal & Bhumika and Jean-Claude Biguine Salon unveil new-age wedding looks
WeddingSutra Engage, our ideas & inspiration platform for luxury and wedding professionals across India, is the go-to event for talented wedding industry professionals, emerging entrepreneurs and highly-regarded designers to meet, showcase their work and learn from the best in the business.
Our most recent edition of WeddingSutra Engage was held in association with The St. Regis Mumbai hotel and the Ladies Wing of Indian Merchant’s Chamber (IMC). Founded in 1966, IMC today is a premier business and professional women’s organisation with over 2200 members, consisting of entrepreneurs, managers, professionals and women from leading business houses.

The event commenced with guests being garlanded as they made their way to the beautiful Imperial Room at The St. Regis Mumbai. Many guests whipped out their smartphones to take pictures of the bright, festive wedding décor – each corner had something unique – by Mumbai’s ace wedding stylist Larly Bahl and Ajay Decoraters.

Flower power reigned supreme as the innovative décor included everything from beautifully shaped white floral bouquets in pots near a “Happily Ever After” signboard to an eye-catching ferns and lilies arrangement on the snack cart, orange marigold garlands over a green cart showcasing Canvera photobooks, pink roses atop a papercut cards base and even a ‘table cover’ made with tiny buds intricately stitched together with incredible finesse.

On display were new offerings and ideas for weddings – be it bespoke gifts by Diageo and creative ‘coffee-table’ style wedding albums by Canvera. Newer wedding entrepreneurs also showcased their company’s offerings, such as wedding photographers WhatKnot, Just Deliveries and Convido – the events concierge company.
Guests arriving after braving the grey clouds and Mumbai’s showers were served cups of coffee and refreshing masala chai from the snack cart as liveried waiters dished out other treats. Model and actress Rupali Suri was the Emcee for the event and kickstarted the proceedings, which were further livened up by stand-up comedian Kunal Rao who regaled the crowd with his punch lines and gentle ribbing. Sachin Myalavarapu, F & B Director of The St. Regis Mumbai added a further warm welcome and shared details about the ‘wedding-ready’ facilities at the luxurious hotel.
Ace designers Shayamal & Bhumika shared what’s trending in bridal ensembles this season, which was followed by a stimulating panel discussion on ‘New Age Weddings’. Given that the industry is transforming so quickly every year, it was a good pulse check on what trends were expected in the wedding industry. It was relevant for wedding industry professionals as well as guests looking for expert advice on the same. Moderated by Parthip Thyagarajan, WeddingSutra.com co-founder and Director, the panel comprised Aditya Motwane, a leading wedding planner and founder of Motwane Entertainment & Weddings, Lubaina Sheerazi, Tourism Marketing Strategist and India Representative for Oman, Kamlesh Hemdev, Director of Ghanasingh Fine Jewels (Kamlesh Hemdev Group) and Dr Geeta Oberoi, noted dermatologist and managing director/founder of Skin & You Clinic.

The panel discussion threw light on a host of topics related to organising weddings, jewellery packing advice for destination weddings with important information on customs and related taxes, Oman’s appeal as a hot wedding destination, and more. Aditya Motwane showed a video of a grand Indian destination wedding of Dubai magnate Yogesh Mehta’s son Rohan to London-based Roshni Khemka in Florence to emphasise just how grand an Indian wedding has become these days. This wedding was the talking point in the industry last year, and certainly held the audience spellbound.
The evening concluded with a surprise act as three brides-to-be clad in beautiful ensembles by Shyamal & Bhumika showcased gorgeous bridal looks by Jean Claude Biguine and dazzling jewellery from Ghanasingh Fine Jewels- Kamlesh Hemdev group.
