A mehendi function that welcomed guests with mandala patterns at the entrance to the all-white reception, Silkeena and Rahul's Thailand wedding celebrations were a visual delight.
Silkeena and Rahul became a couple after a common friend decided to play Cupid. Their wedding in Thailand was a true celebration of their relationship as they took their first step into matrimony. The celebrations were planned by WeddingSutra Favorite – Pink Palki, and here, bride Silkeena takes us up close and personal with all that unfolded at her nuptials.
How We Met
“Rahul and I met through a common friend who thought that both of us would click. The two of us went on a coffee date, and as it turned out, she was right. We kept in touch after that and met often. We even traveled together to Dubai, Thailand and South India. These are some memories we cherish the most since it was so much fun to get to know each other more. Roughly two years after we met he popped the big question, and we decided to take the next big step in our lives.”
Wedding Venues
“Rahul and I got married at The Le Méridien Suvarnabhumi, Bangkok Golf Resort & Spa in Thailand. We fell in love with the property at first sight as it offers amazing venues and stunning views of the golf course. Their diverse spaces meant that we were able to host the various functions in separate venues, each of which had a different aesthetic and theme. Our guests loved this place too.”
Wedding Planning
“Our wedding was planned by Pink Palki and hosting an elaborate affair like this would not have been possible without them. These girls are rockstars! In my experience, Pink Palki has a vision and they really know how to help the families, not just when it comes to planning and executing a wedding, but ensuring that each function looks different from the other. It is an absolute joy to sit with these women and conceptualize a grand event like this. Throughout my wedding, I kept giving all of them flying kisses everytime I spotted them! Ablaze by Simran Takkar took care of my hair and makeup. They are a Thailand-based team, and their makeup was absolutely flawless!”
Wedding Functions
Haldi
“Rahul and I had separate haldi ceremonies with a very limited gathering, and yellow and orange were the colors used for the decor in both the setups. While the decor for my ceremony comprised primarily of a divan that was surrounded by floral arrangements, his was a tad more elaborate with the entrance to the banquet covered in drapes and a backdrop created using yellow and orange fabrics and marigold blooms.”
Mehndi
“This function was hosted outdoors. We combined quirky and youthful aesthetics with pastel tones and floral elements. We wanted this event to carry a very fun and casual vibe, and it had interesting elements such as a DJ console that was made to look like a tape recorder, an entrance with mandala patterns, a backdrop with pink monstera leaves and birdcages as well as a floral ring that made for the bridal seating area. For this function, I wanted an easy breezy look, so I opted for a dark green outfit by S Mayu which had delicate embellishments.”
Sangeet
“The decor for our sangeet was designed to exude a sense of glamour and sophistication. Therefore, we use a lot of golden, silver and black fabrics for the decor. Crystal chandeliers, strings of pearls and floral arrangements with red roses were incorporated into the setup too. The evening began with a ring exchange which was followed by a professional dance act and the lineup of performances by the families. I wore a salmon pink gown by Monisha Jaising for this event.”
Wedding
“Rahul and I had a traditional Anand Karaj ceremony for our wedding, and we went with a very simple yet elegant setup. White and baby pink were the colors used to decorate the venue. I opted for a red lehenga by Dolly J for my wedding.”
Reception
“We wanted our reception to have a Western vibe so we went with white decor elements. Think flowers, leaves, ruffles, and drapes in white, tall branches and a few touches of foliage. This setup was truly mesmerizing. My designer of choice once again was Dolly J, and I wore a gown with a long trail for this stylish function.
