Mekhala and Subodh tied the knot in November last year at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai. After the busy wedding, the couple headed to Australia for a two-week honeymoon. Mekhala shares, “We chose Australia for our December honeymoon as the weather is perfect given it is summer there.” Mekhala shares their memories here…
Honeymoon Highlights
“We stayed at the Hyatt Regency hotel on Darling Harbour in Sydney which offered an amazing harbour view. Our aim was to witness the sensational New Year’s Eve fireworks over the iconic Opera House. We gathered with people from all around the world and shared a wonderful experience as we greeted a new year in. We also enjoyed exploring Taronga Zoo, Sea Life Sydney Aquarium, Sydney Tower and the Opera House.”
“The hot air balloon ride we did at sunrise was one of the highlights of our honeymoon. It was so romantic being together at 3,000 feet above ground level, watching the beautiful sunrise as we floated over the land – and enjoying a delicious champagne breakfast when we came down… it was amazing!”
“Our best experience was when we did a self-drive trip from Sydney to the Hunter Valley vineyards. It was a very beautiful and scenic route.”
“We flew to Cairns and checked in at the Cairns Harbour Lights hotel in Queensland. We booked a suite with an ocean view which provided mesmerising views. We took a cruise to the Great Barrier Reef’s Green Islands where we went scuba diving.”
Green Island, a very popular tourist destination, lies 45 minutes from Cairns. It is surrounded by white sandy beaches and blue waters.
“Last but not the least, we did a tandem skydive together in Sydney. Our ‘jump of faith’ saw us leaping off at 14,000 feet above sea level and cruising down in a 60-second freefall dive. Both of us love adventure and we seek out activities that give us an adrenalin rush! We nailed our bucket list on our Australia honeymoon!
Romantic Moment
“One of our most romantic moments took place in Cairns when we were scuba diving. We held hands under water as we swam among the corals and fishes… this was very romantic and memorable as was the seafood lunch at the end of the cruise.”
Advice for couples
“Do prior booking for hotels to get the best prices and great rooms. Also plan your honeymoon after doing proper research to avoid confusion and wastage of time.”
