Mahima and Omar, AVANI Seychelles Barbarons Resort & Spa
Omar and Mahima exchanged their wedding vows at an afternoon ceremony on a sun-kissed beach in scenic Seychelles
He works in the high-glamor entertainment industry as a well-known journalist, so when Omar wed Mahima, he knew what he wanted in terms of style and ambience for their celebrations. Mahima, with her event management experience, executed many important aspects of the wedding which was held at the beautiful AVANI Seychelles Barbarons Resort & Spa.
How they Met
Entertainment journalist Omar first met Mahima through a common friend and they connected instantly. Their friendship gradually evolved into a romance and they decided to tie the knot.
The Proposal
Omar proposed to Mahima at the beautiful grounds of the Jagmandir Palace hotel in Udaipur. He went down on one knee to propose and had a secret cameraman record that fairytale, magical moment.
Wedding Venue
The couple first visited Seychelles in 2014 with a group of friends, and had explored the main island of Mahe, as well as the smaller, more exotic isles such as Praslin and La Digue when they were dating. Omar had visited the beautiful island country twice earlier and had loved it. Thanks to the scenic beauty and azure waters of the archipelago, the couple chose to hold their destination wedding in Seychelles. After checking out a few hotels there, they fell in love with the AVANI Seychelles Barbarons Resort & Spa. They also liked the fact that the Indian chef there could whip up paneer and dal as easily as roast chicken and augratin dishes!
Wedding Functions
Mehndi
Omar and Mahima decided to host their four wedding functions over two days. The festivities started with a splendid mehndi function at Gravity – a one-storey terrace overlooking the beach. Guests enjoyed unlimited non-tobacco sheeshas and foot tapping numbers. For the beautiful event, Omar donned a traditional pastel lavender colored pathani salwar while Mahima looked resplendent in a green and cream colored gharara which she accessorized with a delicate ‘maang tikka‘ (forehead ornament) and a ‘nath’ (nose ring).
Wedding & Reception
The next morning, Mahima took part in the emotional ‘Punjabi Kaleera’ function where a bride first wears her set of ‘chooras’ (red bridal bangles) in the presence of close family and friends. Since Omar and Mahima wanted to host a white wedding, they opted for the private beach of the hotel as the venue. The entire décor comprised elegant and delicate floral arrangements. Omar and Mahima exchanged their vows and had their first dance as husband as wife. The romantic ambience was heightened with strains of classical jazz music by Sir Nat King Cole and Franki Valli in the background. For her special day, Mahima wore a beautiful white gown by Archana Kochhar which beautifully complemented the bright blue tuxedo worn by Omar. Her look was kept simple by makeup pro Micky Contractor, who gave her a beautiful matte bronzed bridal visage. The afternoon beach wedding slowly transitioned Into a glamorous poolside reception which had local African songs and limbo dancers to keep guests entertained. The glitzy decor was planned by Mahima herself in close discussion with the resort’s team, the Seychelles Tourism Board and Jai Bhujwala of Holidays Box who coordinated every aspect of this wedding perfectly.
Advice for to be weds
Both Mahima and Omar advise couples to concentrate on having an intimate wedding function. With Mahima’s experience in planning and executing events, she avoided any assembly line planners, photographers or designers. She wanted originality in every aspect, and along with her sister Rachna and mother Renu, she planned every function meticulously – from her ensembles, to the music, choreographer, and bridesmaids outfits. Omar and Mahima highly encourage young couples to be actively involved in their own wedding planning process.
