SO Desi Events, the celebrations reflected a careful balance of tradition and contemporary style.

Wedding Planning
Planned and executed by OH! SO Desi Events, Abdul and Iman’s wedding was envisioned as a celebration that honoured both their Sri Lankan and Mangalorean roots while maintaining a clean, modern aesthetic. The focus from the start was on creating a guest experience that felt smooth, engaging, and well thought out. The team came on board six to seven months before the wedding, handling everything from venue scouting and vendor curation to guest logistics and on-ground execution. With all venues located within Dubai, movement between events was carefully planned to ensure comfort and ease for guests throughout the celebrations.
Jyoti Jalan Kohli shares, “Our focus was on building a structured flow across events so that every moment felt natural, even though there was a great deal of planning behind it.” A strong emphasis was placed on timelines and execution. With multiple performances, curated entries, and family involvement across events, the team created detailed schedules that allowed time for rehearsals, technical checks, and first-look moments. This ensured that each segment felt smooth and well-paced without losing its emotional impact. Personalisation remained consistent throughout. From bespoke elements to custom cakes by, each detail was designed to contribute to a larger story while allowing every event to stand on its own.

Wedding Functions
Haldi
Hosted at the groom’s residence, the Haldi began with a simple flower shower moment that set a warm and emotional tone. As the event progressed, it shifted into a more energetic, Holi-inspired celebration. Colours, water play, and music brought in a lively atmosphere, encouraging guests to participate freely.
Mehendi
The Mehendi was designed as a vibrant, immersive experience. Moroccan-inspired arches, patterned details, and bright florals added visual depth while keeping the setting lively and inviting. The celebrations began with energetic entries, as the groom arrived in a baraat-style procession in a luxury sports car accompanied by dhol walas, instantly lifting the mood, followed by the bride’s graceful entry under a phoolon ki chaddar with her sisters. With lively performances adding to the atmosphere, the celebration felt dynamic and joy-filled from the outset. The event then transitioned into a meaningful ritual where the groom’s family placed henna on betel leaves and gently set them on the bride’s hands, marking a moment of acceptance. Interactive elements such as giveaway counters with bangles, earrings, and potli bags, along with a calligraphy station on luggage tags, added an engaging layer for guests. Live chaat counters, a dedicated mehendi station, and the bride’s white henna design brought in additional detail.

Nikaah
The Nikaah was held at the groom’s residence as an intimate gathering with close family and friends. The setup was minimal and elegant, allowing the focus to remain on the ceremony.
A curated spread of traditional Indian dishes, along with customised desserts and mocktails, complemented the setting.
Wedding
The wedding at followed a clean and refined design approach, with a palette of white and beige, layered with soft florals and ambient lighting. The bride walked in with her family, followed by the groom, with a key moment where the bride’s mother welcomed him midway, marking the coming together of both families. The ceremony incorporated Sri Lankan traditions while maintaining a steady, modern flow. Zaffa dancers and a live violinist added structure to key moments without overwhelming the experience.
Additional elements like the coffee table setup symbolising prosperity and a curated dessert spread were integrated into the overall design.

Reception
The reception was a large-scale celebration with over 600 guests. The décor featured cascading red florals across the ceiling, creating a strong visual impact while maintaining a structured layout. The evening began with a family performance, leading into the couple’s entry. The formal seating arrangement allowed for an organised flow, with guests guided to their tables to ensure ease and comfort.
A seven-tier custom cake by the venue stood out as a key highlight. Khaleeji dancers added a regional element to the entertainment. Reflecting on the wedding, Jyoti Jalan Kohli says, “The idea was to make sure each event felt clear in its identity while still being part of a larger, well-connected celebration that guests could enjoy without feeling overwhelmed.”
