Khushbu and Mehul, Sheraton Hua Hin Resort & Spa, Thailand
He made an entry to his wedding on a majestic elephant, and she glided in on a beautiful boat. Check out Mehul and Khushbu's picture-perfect wedding celebrations in Thailand.
They wanted to wow their loved ones and guests, so Mehul and Khushbu planned interesting concepts such as an enchanting ‘Winter Wonderland’ reception and a vibrant Moroccan-themed sangeet in the lush loveliness of their resort in tropical Thailand. Their dreams turned reality – thanks to WeddingSutra Favorite Shanaya Celebrations, who executed Mehul and Khushbu’s vision with attention to minutest of details and Koro Films who documented the entire wedding through memorable photos. Here, bride Khushbu shares all the highlights of the festivities.
How We Met
“Mehul is a physician and I work as a nurse. Both of us met each other for the first time when we were working at the same hospital. Mehul states he had tried to get my attention multiple times until one fated day when both of us finally happened to be in the same room. He thought this was his chance to introduce himself to me, which he eventually did and after that, he asked me out. Soon, we were spending a lot of time together, and before we knew it, we had fallen in love!”
Wedding Planning
Khushbu and Mehul entrusted Shanaya Celebrations with the responsibility of helping them pull off a phenomenal wedding, and the team left no stone unturned to give the duo the wedding they had dreamed of. Not only were they part of the planning process right from the start and working meticulously to realize their vision, but they were also prompt to accommodate major last minute changes to the plans. “I spent 10 months planning my wedding, and it ended up pouring on our wedding day! But we had an amazing wedding planning team in place, and on that particular day, they did an exceptionally good job,” says Khushbu.
Wedding Venue
“Our wedding took place at the Sheraton Hua Hin Resort & Spa in Thailand. We fell in love with it the instant we stepped into it. We had seen many venues during our first trip to Thailand, but this one stuck out to us. We both had the same reaction to it so we knew that this was the place we’d get married at. My experience with planning the wedding was exciting yet stressful. We did have wonderful wedding planners who helped us a lot. However, we were flying all our guests to Thailand, and I just wanted to make sure that everyone had the time of their lives. Looking back I am glad I devoted so much time to our wedding because everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Most people have said our wedding was the best they have ever been to, and some said they would have never traveled to this wonderful county if it wasn’t for our wedding! When we heard what our guests had to say, it felt like all our efforts paid off.”
Wedding Functions
Thai Welcome and Welcome Party
“I wanted to follow a Thai theme for this event. We decided on giving our guests a cultural welcome, so we got Thai dancers to greet everyone who got off the bus, put flower garlands around their necks and offer them cold Thai tea. We also had Thai drummers who played as the guests arrived. For our welcome party, we had an all Thai decor. The color scheme for this event was purple, and the venue was decorated using lilac flowers. We had another set of Thai ladies who welcomed us into our seats along with fire breathers who kept our guests entertained. The photo booth was a big tuk-tuk and it everyone had a great time getting their pictures clicked there”
After Party
“The second function was the After Party for which we had created an ambiance of a masquerade ball. Staying true to the theme, all our guests were given eye masks. We partied away to the present day dance numbers, but we also got a little taste of Victorian parties of yore. For this event, I dressed up in a black top with a monochrome Aztec print skirt and Mehul chose to wear a shirt and trousers.”
Pool Party
“We started the second day with a party by the pool. Inspired by the water feature, we decided to go with a nautical theme for this function. The entire place was decorated in white and navy blue. The cabanas, day beds, and even the dining setup were in sync with the color scheme. We installed lots of boats’ wheels, anchors and swimming tubes around the place to align the decor with the mood of the afternoon. We also added bunches of yellow flowers which added freshness and a contrast to the entire area. Mehul and I wore blue and white ensembles and looked like we were ready to set sail!”
Sangeet
“Our sangeet carried a Moroccan theme. We wanted to create a truly Middle-Eastern atmosphere, so we decided to use lots of bright colors. I picked out pink, purple, orange and green as the colors of the night. We illuminated the place with lots of purple lights and incorporated drapes, mirror curtains, and Moroccan arches to further enhance the decor. There was a swing decorated with flowers on the stage for us to sit on.”
Wedding
“After all the fun themes that we had had at our earlier functions, I wanted a more elegant and classy wedding ceremony. So we went with a muted palette of peach and white. The mandap was set against the backdrop of the open waters and featured white drapes and flowers that matched the color scheme. The groom always gets a grand entry, so I wanted to make sure I had an impressive entrance too! Therefore, Mehul came with his ‘baraat’ (groom’s procession) on an elephant, and I entered on a boat. We both wore ensembles designed by Seema Mehta. I was a traditional bride in red for our pheras and while Mehul wore a white sherwani and a red turban.”
Reception
“We opted for a ‘Winter Wonderland’ theme for our reception and the entire place was done up in silver and white. To add an icy feel, we lit the venue in cool blue light, and the results were fantastic. White flowers, balloons, and chandeliers were used to decorate the stage. We even had a little set up that featured heavy drapes covered in silver sequins and trimmed with white fabric, snowflakes, and candle stands added to enhance the vibe of an enchanting winter landscape. I wore a white lehenga by Gaurav Gupta, and Mehul looked dapper in a classic black tuxedo from Massimo Dutti.”
Advice For To-Be-Wed Couples
“Have fun at your wedding! Everything won’t go exactly as planned and that’s just the way it is. Make sure you research your wedding planners before booking them. This team is very important, and I was glad I chose Shanaya Celebrations to take care of our nuptials. This one will probably resonate most with brides – if you are very specific in your imagination like I am, please be sure to pick out your wedding outfits before you start finalizing themes and colors! I only started to pick the color scheme and exact themes after I had gotten all my outfits. After all, you want your outfits and jewellery as well as your groom’s outfits to complement the decor!”
