Komal and Roman, Cancun, Mexico
The soft white sands of a beautiful beach in Cancun, Mexico, sported the vibrant colors of an Indian wedding when Roman and Komal wed there.
Their story started when they in elementary school and their romance commenced years later, and led to an elegant wedding in Mexico. The couple picked the sprawling Beach Palace resort in Cancun, Mexico, which offered regal environs and a relaxed vibe. Here, bride Komal shares highlights of the celebrations.
How We Met
“Roman and I attended the same elementary school. We were always just friends and it wasn’t until years later that we went on a date. We connected very well and things just fell into place. The rest, as they say, is history!”
Proposal
“Roman’s proposal was simple, yet very sweet. I woke up one morning and as I walked down the stairs to reach the lower level of the house, I saw him at the end of the flight of steps. He was on one knee and asked me to marry him. I would have never seen this coming! I had just woken up, so my hair wasn’t done and I had no makeup on but the gesture was so authentic and it was a total surprise!”
Wedding Venue
“We had our wedding at the Beach Palace in Cancun, Mexico, which is a luxury resort with a beautiful beach where white sands meet the clear open waters. The property lent itself beautifully to match the vibe of the functions and helped bring in a sophisticated yet relaxed feel to the events. We wanted to have nuptials that were chic and the environs of this hotel did the trick.”
Wedding Planning
“Your wedding photographer, makeup artists, and hairstylist are some of the people who will make a significant contribution to your big day. It’s through pictures that you will relive your big day for the rest of your life and well-done hair and makeup is what will make you look stunning in those photographs. I had entrusted Jen Evoy from Toronto, Canada, with the responsibility to make me look the best version of myself. She is great so I had taken her with me all the way to Mexico and when I saw what she had done for my tresses and my makeup, I knew that the effort had paid off! Jen was truly wonderful.”
“The very talented and artistic Moni of Moni & Adri Photography who is based out of Mexico was the woman behind the lens for our wedding. She captured every beautiful moment and we’re so happy with her work.”
“All our functions were held outdoors. The open spaces at the hotel are so beautiful that we didn’t want to miss a single opportunity to make the most of it.This definitely was a bit risky since you can’t really control the weather. However, we were in luck and everything went on without any glitches. We had all our events outside in the beautiful tropical setting just as the way we had planned.”
Wedding Functions
Sangeet
“For this event, I wore a custom-made lehenga from India. This vibrant ensemble that used threads of various colors to transform the black fabric of the skirt into a palate that was bursting with bright hues. My inspiration behind this piece was Rajasthan and I included lots of different shades, patchwork, and mirror work. It was the kind of theme you would normally see in pieces created by Pakistani designer Ali Xeeshan.”
Wedding
“Our wedding took place the following morning and we exchanged our vows on the beach. I had envisioned white to be the dominant color at the ceremony which is why the setting could not have been any better. Our mandap included white drapes and flowers in the matching shade. Since the sand too was of the same color, everything was in alignment with the picture I had in mind. I was a Sabyasachi bride and wore an ivory lehenga from their Udaipur Collection while Roman wore a sherwani in the same hue.”
Reception
“For the reception in the evening, I wore a creation by Sabyasachi once again and felt like nothing less than royalty. It was a deep red lehenga that was teamed with a baby pink dupatta. The skirt featured golden embroidery with touches of the palest blue and pink. The craftsmanship was like nothing I had ever seen before; so perfect, so beautiful! We included a lot of bulbs in our reception decor and had a dance floor with Roman and my initials printed on it.”
Advice For Couples
“Don’t leave things for the last minute and don’t make any irrational decisions either. Enjoy every moment of the wedding planning process because before you know it, it’ll be over!”
